About 2 and a half years ago I had my first big panic attack, I had no idea what it was or what was happening but I got through it and because my mum suffers with aniexty and I'm pretty well educated I knew what it was but just put it down to stress 6 months later I had another big one and then ever since then after that they haven't stopped its anywhere between 10-20 panic attacks a day however I can get through most of them as I get distracted with my son and housework (they are mainly bad of a night because it's quieter and I have more time to think) however I don't know why they happen I get the occasional ones where they are bad they start off light like the ones I get daily but slowly get worse over the half hour / hour mark then into full blown panic, hyperventilating, sweating, feeling of everything closing in and choking and dizziness where I have passed out before... Yesterday I had my first panic attack out of my home it's never happened outside of home before and it came on suddenly there was no build up and it was horrible as I couldn't even concentrate on my son I didn't know what to do I felt as if I was loosing control of my brain and going crazy I ended up telling my partner I needed air which took half an hour just for me to tell him then stand up and walk to my car and I had to just lock myself in my car and sit there through it... It went on for about 40 minutes in total... But I've never had one in public before that's come on so bad suddenly like that and it was horrible... I've seen my doctor about it in the past who has recommended medication however I do not want to go down that track they then recommended physiologists but I still haven't gone as finding time with toddler is hard... But I'm definitely going back to my doctor as soon as possible as the one I had yesterday has topped it for me... I can't do this anymore 😞 basically I just wanted to vent this out somewhere where people might understand as most people that haven't experienced them just don't get it and I have no one to talk to about it ..
Welcome @Chooken1. I used to have bad panic attacks. They started due to a woekplace incident. They got worse. I'd get a lot at night. My symptons were that I felt I couldn't breath. I'd hace to run out into the back yard. It was the only place I felt that I could breath. These attacks came out of the blue. Wasnt thinking about the work incident. Sometimes we don't know what triggers set it off. I've had them in public, but the trigger here is hearing a man yell. He ciuld be yelling down the street for his wife to hurry up. I'm at the other end of the shops when I hear him. I listerally sat/fell to the ground and peed my pants. Of course then came the tears. People trying to help me. Thinking I fell I sent them all away except for one lady who helped me to the car. It was recommended by my treating counselor that I visit a psychologist who specialises in EMDR -eyey movement deaencitsation reprogramming. I found one. Had 5 normal therapy sessions with her. Then we did 3EMDR sessions. Wow. No more feelings of terror. This treatment has worked really well for me. Others on this site have other methods that they use. I think you nrrd to make time for a psychologist. You need to get to the bottom of what's triggering these episodes. 10-20 a day. You must be permanently exhausted. My suggestion. Talk to your gp. See if you can find a osychologist experienced in dealing with anxiety. Good luck. I hope you find something that works

Re: Panic attacks
Dear Chooken 1. Panic attacks are SCARY, to say the least. With the hyperventilation, the only thing I can recommend is to breathe slowly into a paper bag. Paper is best as plastic clings. It also sounds like a form of agoraphobia. There is medication for agoraphobia, but finding out why you're suffering is the better solution. Anxiety feeds agoraphobia/feeds hyperventilation, so it's quite a 'full bag' you have. Have you ever had this problem before, if you have can you remember any details, where, how? I would suggest you start opening your front door first. Stand in the doorway and concentrate on your breathing. Do this until you feel happy, then, walk down to your letterbox, or down to the end of your drive. Take it slow. If you can't get to your box or the end of the driveway, go home. Try again tomorrow. The whole time you're walking, concentrate on breathing, slowly and deeply, keep paper bag close for hyperventilation purposes. Write down what you're feeling while you're walking, keep note of anything that causes you to start feeling hyper venting. Once you can identify where you feel most uncomfortable and when the breathing difficulties start, I would then go to your Dr and explain how it starts.

Re: Panic attacks
All I remember is that is started 2 n a half years ago almost when my and my partner got back together after we split up when I found out he had been having a affair for 4 months which I saw something when it first started when I was breastfeeding I was reading some Facebook messages on my boyfriends account as he wasn't being himself and all of a sudden in front of my eyes the messages were coming up and happening as I watched across the room at him... They were talking about sex etc and I couldn't take it we just had a baby for crying out loud so I'm really bad at bringing things up but I sat down with him and said please don't go there this will ruin us and he promised me it was nothing and that it was just about her ex boyfriend and I didn't believe him but accepted it so I messaged her and told her to please not get involved with him as he's in a relationship with me and we have just had a child together and she never responded but I know she got it and the worst part was is at the time my partner worked at mines shift 3/1 so three weeks there and 1 week home so he was with her more than our family ... They did the unthinkable even though she knew about me and our son... I found notes 4 months later in his luggage from work explaining that he was cheating on me (I guess it was his way to let it out cause he felt terrible about it but never owner up to it) in the end he admitted to it and I threw him out however I wanted to give it a second go for our son and that I was still madly in love with him... So we did we started off on dates but when we eventually got back together it was hard I was so insecure and felt worthless... Every girl we walked past I felt I was just trash compared to them and got really jealous and I still to this day cannot trust him completely... It's gotten so much better dealing with that over the years now and we have moved past it (I think) but the panic attacks started when we got back together and I don't know if it has anything to do with it or not and I can see why cause I was ruined but were great now so I don't get it...

Re: Panic attacks
Hi Chooken 1. It's hardly surprising you 'panic' when you are out. You have a child together, during the latter stage of pregnancy women feel awful, huge, ungainly etc. This is when we most need spousal support, understanding, love and KNOW we can trust them implicitly. A pregnant women seeing someone almost 'twiggy-like' in comparison to us will naturally suspect her spouse of looking. Whether he does or not, we feel suspicious and sometimes will accuse. In your case, you had good reason, he WAS unfaithful. I would say, once trust has been broken, it takes ages to restore and repair. The panic attacks you're experiencing may be due to you still feeling unsure and jealous. It's highly likely, you still have trust issues with him, these need to be addressed and discussed if you and him are to have a future. I would be inclined to get some advise 'Relationships Australia' have excellent counsellors, Beyond Blue also have trained counsellors who can help and guide you through this uncertainty. It's probable you feel alone and lonely too. When we have serious issues that are not addressed and resolved, every so often they flair up and cause mayhem. You need to resolve everything and he has to realize that even what he considers harmless flirting is not harmless, it's hurtful. It's teasing and torment. Perhaps even though you may be against it, a trial separation till you feel he is trustworthy. He HAS to earn your trust, he violated it.
