Good Afternoon - Afternoon Tea

Good Afternoon - Afternoon Tea

G'day Forumites!

After some discussion with mods and community guides we have decided to start up an afternoon thread. @Shaz51 has kindly offered to help me with the tagging at there are a number of us.

The idea for this thread came to me recently when I was on the Good morning thread one afternoon.

Pull up a chair, bring a tea or coffee and let's chill out. 🙂

Give it time. Councils usually figure it out in the end ... keep a digital or paper trail.

@Adge sorry you had such a terrible day. Frustrating when we don't get responses to important emails. I have even put URGENT in the titles of some of my emails on occasions. Hope the coming day sees some response to your communications.

@Jacques Wikipedia doesn't mention Sharon Stone in the cast list. I have a bad memory these days for details of movies I've seen. Mostly I just remember how I felt about them at the time and thoughts they gave me, like it was well-directed.

Hugs back, @Shaz51. I bet your real life hugs are comforting.

Somehow I really like a lot of JP videos and I am female, not conservative and often a feminist.

Mental illness as a matter of coomplexity. It certainly fits my bill.

What do you think?

@Appleblossom I haven't watched the videos but if the simple idea of mental illness often being complex, I agree with that. Also feel that the complexity of our global systems could be part of what seems to be an ever increasing number of people struggling mentally and emotionally and to function in life.

My experience of bipolar over a lifetime is multi-faceted and the meds complicate things too. Not at all is it as simple as up or down. I mostly believe this particular illness is strongly genetic. Another part of me questions all ways of looking at it beyond current labels for things.

Re: Good Afternoon - Afternoon Tea

@Appleblossom @Mazarita definately. My psychiatrist years ago said that my psychosis was due to my son2s schizophrenia which is organic in origin. We were financially struggling and my son2 was insane for 6 years. Even now he lives with a uncontrolled psychosis which is probably still a trigger for me. Both of my other children suffer from depression due to son2's 6 years of illness. I think there is a genetic component which makes people susceptable but all in all the damage is done from sheer stress.

@Bunniekins yeah I sometimes think my nerves were fried by early and sustained trauma from domestic violence.

Re: Good Afternoon - Afternoon Tea

I'm sure JP Mental Illness videos may be helpful @Appleblossom @Mazarita Thanks.

Shall take a look, when able.

Most MH & MI Discussions leave Trauma totally out of the picture (barely mention it).

That leaves me feeling alienated & disenfranchised - from most MI & MH discussions.

Long-Term (Complex) Trauma is the Causal factor for my supposedly being "prone to Anxiety", or "sometimes Depression" - Yet they want to focus on Anxiety & Depression, with no Reference to Trauma.

According to Psychological Journals & readings that I'm aware of -

Treating or attempting to Treat Depression & Anxiety in someone with Trauma - Is Pointless & Futile, Unless the Trauma & Dissociation is Recognised & Treated First.

Yet that is exactly what most Professionals Do - Treat Anxiety, Treat Depression.

Remaining unaware of (not Diagnosing) any Trauma background - in the person.

@Adge

I am dissappointed in the psychologists I have had, with the exception of one, who stopped practice ... and turned to music making .... I gain more from self educating on youtubes. I find JP's lectures have intellectual and moral rigor and are trauma informed. His accurate use of language makes me feel less Aspie!
