Over it all

Over it all

Hi everyone..... i'm new here.

I have had depression for many years but only 4 yrs ago did it get bad enough to take medication. It works and it makes things easier but a lot of the time i feel like it' just all too much... life in general.

I don't like conflict and living with people i love who are too stubborn and pig headed to get along is taking it' toll. I am always in the middle... expected to take the side of my partner or my grown daughter ( he is not her father) when they are both right or both wrong.

Nobody understands that i have a hard time coping every day as it is.

I dont mean to sound all doom and gloom as i much rather prefer positivity but it's hard.

I don't even know how to begin lifting myself out of this.

Hi @lindy. It's hard when you have depression and you try to create a calm, as stress free as possible life. & then boom! Family starts arguing. People want more of you than you have to offer. It's so hard to stay positive when these issues happen.
You say nobody understands I have a hard time coping everyday as it is - is that because you haven't told them or because they choose not to hear you?
Looking after our mental health means that we need to be honest with ourselves and our family. Sometimes you need to tell them what they are doing is hurting you. Be honest. It's hard but it is worth it.
Your child is an adult. Your partner is an adult. They can sort it out themselves. Tell them you won't be taking sides in future. That you want no part of these arguments and WHY. Then, nezt time they start up - leave the room - go to the bathroom if it's the only place they won't follow you. Keep telling them you are not getting involved. Keep leaving the room. Hopefully they will soon learn.
If not, you may want to have some family counseling.

Re: Over it all

@holding on. I hear you. But getting pissed won't help. Alcohol just makes us more depressed & less able to do the things we need to do. I know. I drank to hide my depression and anxiety. I can honestly say I'm better off the alcohol. I can think clearly. I can focus on me more and I can focus on my son more - giving him what he needs - while not overdoing it. I get tired when I'm emotional. So it's quality not quantity that he gets. He seems happier with this.
I try to reduce my stress levels. He sometimes pushes my buttons on purpose. It's a balance. Don't try and do it on your own
