Something’s not right

Lower than the rock bottom

Lower than the rock bottom

I posted recently about my mental breakdown. I'm not out of it yet so I can't focus on recovery whatsoever. Everything is suffering because of it. My relationship, business, me and my life generally. I feel incredibly helpless and angry.

My thoughts are disordered and change from one minute to the next. How do you tell anyone at all the seriousness of it when you really don't have the energy to speak. That is how it's gotten for me. Talking is just nothingness. Just a bunch of words and nothing changes.

Occasionally I may watch my partner. She may be whistling a tune and I hear it. I say nothing. It's like we are in two very different worlds. I feel completely distant and in some far off place on my own.

Then there is the constant feeling of that aloneness. That I'm completely alone. No one can see me and I'm not there. I have to try make sense of the words someone in saying and just to even hear sound is quite annoying. When I do talk, it's almost surreal. I know I'm talking I just don't feel present at all.

There is no concept of time. If I have to talk to someone my view is to get it over and done with so I can just be left alone. Put on the face that all is fine then go home and be my not fine self.

Why do I do it? Because I don't need the pressure and million and one questions. Are you on medication? Maybe you should see a doctor. Maybe you can talk to a mental health professional, maybe go on a mental health plan. Are you eating and exercising. Oh, you poor thing. I wish there was something I could do. And the list goes on. I just shut down further.

It doesn't matter anymore how much the stgma around mental illness is being worked on, there is still stigma. The main message I get is, no one wants to speak to you if you are not happy, have not got it together and are not depressing to be around. In short very few people care and very few people listen.

So each day goes by am I'm sinking deeper and deeper in with no energy to try anything at all. Just an inner screaming that is there 24-7. It doesn't go away.

I don't like this anger a lot. I don't like the instability and strength of it. I know it's been there for a long time, it just makes my every day life difficult.

I know how you feel - I don't like feeling anger either.

How was your therapy appointment today?

Apologies for the late response. I went to therapy today. Still processing. I read what you wrote about Anger. Everything is still extremely ovewhelming. I have ten different projects for work so I am having to manage that somehow. I work for myself. I guess there is work for me to do around anger and what I believe about it. I think it is linked to bluesman. (A name I use for a fatherly figure as I have difficulty talking about him in that way). It was something I learnt off a psychologist I saw once.

Thanks for being around and listening to me. It is appreciated. Take care of you.

@Maggie Thank you, That is a precious message. I went to therapy. The therapist seems like she may be ok but it is the first session. Not the right time to determine that. The outcome was that we will need maybe between 3-4 sessions for her to get to know more. Therapy is going to be long term. This time, I will not quit. I'm a bit blank right now. Thank you for sending your message of support today.

It is a very ditressing emotion and hard to know what to do with it sometimes. For quite a few years now, I have always imagined a huge warehouse full of glass. I just want someone to hand me a baseball bat, close the door, go away and let me loose. I am slowly learning it is ok to feel really angry and that I am not a bad person for feeling angry.

The therapy appointment was OK. I think relief that I was finally going to be able to talk to someone in person and get help. I had to wait three weeks for the appointment, so it felt like a long wait. She seems to be ok. I guess I can only make a proper assessment with more sessions of how things are going.

Hope you are well and thanks for asking after me today.

Take good care of you.

Hi @Powderfinger ...I'm glad your first therapy appointment went OK, that's good to hear 🙂 How often will you be seeing your therapist?

Yes, this is hard to learn. I find feeling anger distressing, too.

Thanks for your good wishes 🙂 I hope your day today is a good one...thinking of you...

I am not sure what to do with myself after yesterday's session. The fog is slowly lifting and it's frightening. It's like coming out if this cocoon and everything around you is still the same and you are not.

The therapist has indicated she wants to see me weekly ad least until the end of the year. I think at this time, that is necessary with the events that have taken place and my current situation.

If it wasn't for sane, I don't even want to think about what I would have done. I'm very thankful to you and @Maggie for being right there. I know you have your own worries. So thank you. Although it does not say much, it is genuine for really being there in my time of need.

I hope you have had a good day today.

I agree that a nervous breakdown changes you. I think it's good that you'll be seeing your therapist weekly, as it sounds like you have a lot to process.

Thank you for your heartfelt words. Part of my reason for trying to be there for people is that I recognise how fortunate I am that I came out the other side of my nervous breakdown...it means I want to try to give back a bit. So it's my pleasure to try my best to listen and support you., just as a peer.

Yes, my day has been pretty good, thanks 🙂

I hope the frightening feeling eases for you soon, @Powderfinger .
