Re: social isolation

Hi Bridgetjones, I feel for you, I have a fear of crowds and that isolates me somewhat and meeting nem people, I feel they judging me before they even know me. I find that you don;t have to rush the motivation it will come when you feel comfortable with yourself { always remember, you are the most important person in your life}

Look up, Look down, Look around, then stand proud, after that the social side of you life will look alot brighter for you.

We are with you

Regards Rexy

Re: social isolation

Hi Rexy
Thanks alot for your reply. I feel like people are judging me too but have come to realise at times I imagine judgement. Assume people will see all the things I despise about myself. So as a result for many years have felt Im not worthy of having friends

Re: social isolation

Hi bridgetjones, I'm guessing you have depression and / or social anxiety?

Sounds like you need to link in with some good supports. GP, Psychologist and perhaps a support group. I suggest you are gentle to yourself and take baby steps to help you to recovery.

I feel exactly the same as you, so you're not alone and it's not an easy place to be. But don't give up.

Re: social isolation

Hi @Bridgetjones

As @Rexy said - you are the most important person in your life

It's amazing and sad how we can talk ourselves into thinking so low of ourselves. It's great to hear that you realise that you 'imagine judgement' We are our own biggest critic. I'm sadden to hear this has stopped both of you, @Bridgetjones & @Rexy, in connecting with others.

@Bridgetjones - you are 100% worthy of having friends. I've seen you 'around' the forums offering advice. You seem like a very kind hearted person.

We're here to connect with, whenever you need it. I hope that connecting with us improves your confidence and you can start feeling comfortable making connections in the offline world too.

Welcome both of you to the Forums. I look forward to learning more about you both.

Re: social isolation

Hi blackdog, Thanks for your comments. I do have depression/ social anxiety. Both conditions are way better than they have been in the past. Im currently seeing a psychologist and attend a womens support group once a fortnight. I enjoy the support group alot. We all have some type of MI so I find it comforting to be around others who are in the same boat as myself. Im glad to have joined the Sane forum too as it also reinforces that Im not alone in my experiences.

Re: social isolation

Thanks for your post NikNik. Appreciate what youve said. Makes me think I really do need to see myself in a better light and disregard my faults whether real or imagined. We are all just humans who make mistakes. Im a loving grandma and my two beloved grandchildren reinforce my worth with their reactions to to me. Excitement to see me, run and jump intomy arms for a big cuddle. I love that very much 🙂

Re: social isolation

Hey @Bridgetjones - I have been looking at quite a number of posts today from various people and reading yours here.

There is a thread running though so many people who live with MI's lives.

Aloneness, and I see this thing in each of us that so desparately WANTS/NEEDS to not be alone, yet we kind of choose to be because the deep and terrifying reality of enegaing with other people int he real world is overwhelming. So many of us have antenae that seem atuned to dissaproval, judgement and shunning... and I wonder how much of that is inside ourselves, that we dissaporive, judege and shun our OWN beings, and so see it in other people constantly.

I hope you can still the inner critic that is using other people's voices.

I love it that you have your grandchildren who light up and run to you, that is very sepecial, how would it be if you looked at yourself through their eyes everyday when you wake up? You MUST be a loving, wonderful Nanna to them, you could light up and metaphorically run into your own arms...
