Hi Would love to hear about other peoples experiences of friendless times due to social anxiety. Ive had this condition in varying degrees over the years.

Welcome the Forums. I appreciate the effort you've taken in posting for the first time. It can be hard putting yourself out there.
Feel free to take a wander around the Forums. There's a few discussion where the forumnites hang out and chat. We are a really friendly bunch. 
In particular, you might want check out: Night Shift, the beer garden. These dicussions care great for mingling.
There's a few members who have recently been talking about social anxiety. Check out this thread - @kell, @plasmo and @Redraw are among a few who have experience with social anxiety. Perhaps they can share some thoughts here? Feel free to contribute to that thread too.
