Coping with multiple diagnonsenses

Coping with multiple diagnonsenses

Well, here goes....

This is my first post here and I'm not really sure what to expect.... I've suffered from mental illness for 23 years, and during that time I've been given different diagnosises (diagnonsense- thank you, "Girl, Interrupted"!). Recently however, things have deteriorated significantly and after being in remission with my first one, it came back to haunt me and I was given a second one as well whilst being hospitalised until the mental health act for 3.5 weeks- my longest ever psych admission.

I'm now home (thank goodness- I could feel my mental health getting worse every day I was in hospital as it was an extremely toxic environment), however, it's been extremely hard to readjust back to the outside world. I'm hoping this forum provides some sort of "normal".

Hi @ms_37 Glad to hear you are home.

I loved Girl Interrupted. Some amazing performances, and lines.

The forum has helped me a lot. When I first posted it helped me feel less alone, and eventually built my confidence. I'll tag you in the introduce yourself thread and hopefully you'll meet a few people. Take care

Re: Coping with multiple diagnonsenses

hey @ms_37 and welcome
I also have multiple diagnoses- is there something concerning you about having more then one?

it can be really tricky to adjust back to the real world, try starting with the basics like eating 3 meals, sleep, hygiene and some exercise to start with. itll take baby steps but youll get there, hopefully feeling a little better too

happy to chat anytime. please feel free to have a look around and join in where you like as well. A little forum tip is to put an @ before a members name, this way they'll be tagged a receive a notification from you as well.

again welcome!

Re: Coping with multiple diagnonsenses

@ms_37 hi, welcome. I'm sorry you feel this way and you were in hospital for 3.5 weeks, that's sad.

I have multiple diagnoseses aswell, I'm not sure what yours are but you don't have to share, that's okay.

Is there anything I can do?

Thanks, Frog. Yes, it's a fantastic movie- perfect description on how it's like to suffer from a variety of mental health diagnosis, especially BPD.

Re: Coping with multiple diagnonsenses

@outlander Thanks for that.. I guess the stigma of one is hard enough, and two makes you seem even more "crazy". 😣 Doesn't help when people look at me and say it doesn't look like I've got an ED and I look fine 😠🙍‍♀️🤦‍♀️- "well, that's because I've just spent 3 weeks being refed through a NGT and having to eat 6 times a day you freaking morons!" MASSIVE trigger...

Re: Coping with multiple diagnonsenses

its really tricky @ms_37
those who often look fine and look like they are coping are sometimes the ones who need the most help. the stigma can be quite difficult for sure.

your not crazy for having multiple diagnoses. for me I have anxiety, depression, complex ptsd, and BPD and that's just mental health. your dignoses don't define who you are though

@Former-Member Thanks for that.. Hmm just strength to get through the next couple of days and to ignore the demons telling me that I should just do everyone a favour...

It can be real tricky coming out of hospital.

Hosptial is a confined and controlled environment.

I agree with outlander. Take it slow and easy. Eating and excercise.

Friends that are worth having will stick around. Sometimes the others will drop of and while that’s truely really lonely, if they can not understand, and be accepting it might be a worthwhile adjustment to let them go.

Wel done for posting!!! And stick around!!! People do understand what it’s like. Many have been there and still are here
