Something that picked me up today - might be useful to others
[Verse 1]
I'll die way before Methuselah
So I'll fight sleep with ammonia
And every morning, with eyes all red
I'll miss them for all the tears they shed
[Chorus]
But I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
[Verse 2]
I miss prosthesis and mended souls
Trample over beauty while singing their thoughts
I match them with euphoria
When they said, "je suis plus folle que toi"
[Chorus]
[Spoken break]
Nous et la man on est de sortie
Pire qu'une simple moitié
On compte à demi-demi
Pile sur un des bas côtés
Comme des origamis
Le bras tendu paraît cassé
Tout n'est qu'épis et éclis
Ces enfants bizarres
Crachés dehors comme par hasard
Cachant l'effort dans le griffoir
Et une creepy song en étendard
Qui fait :
[Middle eight]
I'm doing my face
With magic marker
I'm in my right place
Don't be a downer
- Christine and the Queens, Tilted
From the artist:
The “actually” is of course a strong clue of how unsure I feel about it all – by saying it it’s like I’m affirming something to myself.
The whole song is built around this very image of being tilted. I chose this word because it’s ambivalent : am I talking about falling ? About being twisted ? Is it playful or dangerous ? I guess I like you to inhabit the song with your own mood, so I kept it deliberately open. I also love that the word implies a move [Christine is a dancer, so she performs the song literaly trying to keep her balance].
Keeping it is hard ; in a world where this is easily too much, where people “lost it”, one can quickly feel out of place. The song is about trying to embrace this weirdness, awkwardness of yours, all those thoughts and details that make you feel like you don’t belong. This is not tough, beautiful, fitting enough? Very well then. We shall dance for those who can hear the music.
Because of my condition I regularly feel out of place - I feel 'tilted'. But that's ok, I guess. It's not about them - it's about me being ok with me.
