How do depressed people cope with having a job?

How do depressed people cope with having a job?

So I'll be starting college soon and I decided to take up a part-time job. Went for the job interview and I have been offered a job.

But instead of feeling happy, I feel this strange feeling in me. I feel down, I feel depressed.

Just the thought of travelling to my workplace sent me go spiralling into depression. It takes me so much effort to even leave the house, and it would take me triple the effort to travel to my workplace, it would take me 1 and a half hr of transport + walking some distance under the hot sun to reach my workplace. And the job is also a boring admin job too, a job that I hardly care about but I applied for it anyway because I wanted to save up enough money so that I can move out of my toxic home environment. But i might have to end up postponing this plan though.

I'm thinking of rejecting this job offer. When I'm in a better mental state, then maybe I'll try this job thing again. But this entire job thing is just too exhausting for me to think about at the moment.

How do depressed people cope with having a job? I know I can't, especially when I'm going through very bad episodes of depression, and each time I try to push myself to take the job, I always end up getting fired due to poor work performance. It's just so difficult for me to focus on work when I'm feeling so low all the time 😕

@utopia Yeah my studies are part-time. I have the same study load as the full-timers though, I'll be completing my studies at around the same time as them, the only difference between part-time and full-time programme is that as a part-timer I have less contact hours.

And my living environment does contribute a lot to my depression, which is why I'm thinking of moving out.

Though it's challenging for me to juggle work and school at same time, but I don't like that feeling of having no money and that feeling of being helpless

I still couldn't forget how helpless I felt when my dad was yelling at me to get out of the house and he told me that he isn't afraid to whack me and was staring at me with this "I want to murder you" gaze in his eyes. He has actually strangled my mom before when i was a child, if he didn't release his hands in time she could have died, this is how cold and heartless he is, and I was really afraid that he will end up killing me too. He is such a cold and heartless person, I wouldn't be surprised if he actually ends up becoming a murderer someday.

I finally realised the importance of money, if I have money, I wouldn't end up being stucked in this situation, if I have money, I wouldn't end up feeling so helpless. And this is why I decided to look for a part-time job.

Since I'm stucked in school at the moment, the only thing I can do now in my situation is to look for a part-time job and hopefully that part-time job will allow me to convert to full-time once I finish my studies so that I can move out of this house.

That sounds like a great plan @MintyX. Just try and put up with him just a little bit longed til you can reach your goals. Yiu will get there. I'm sure of it. You sound strong. In the meantime try and avoid him as much as possible.

There is a living away from home allowance from Centrelink ... but you might have to provide documents.

Anyway .. take it one step at a time ... better they are solid and in right direction than you rush in to something.
