Full medical disclosure

Full medical disclosure

Hi everyone.

Im new here and this is my first post.

I suffer from major depression and BPD, and have been hospitalised due to its severity. Im unemployed but im close to getting a job with an interview next week.

The problem is i must pass a medical and i know they will certainly ask abount mental illness history. My other problem is my scars which are present on my wrist, which also has a semicolon tattoo on it?

The job is working within a state government department.

Re: Full medical disclosure

I think Government jobs are about the safest because they do not discriminate as much as the private employers do. If it is a safety concern then maybe you will have to disclose it but otherwise, they can not discriminate. I'm pretty sure

Re: Full medical disclosure

I think my doctor may try and talk me out of this job as its quite a challenging role dealing with highly emotional members of the community. Maybe im biting off more than i can chew with this role but i dont want to die wondering either.... i may take your advice though.. thankyou

Re: Full medical disclosure

@Hector. Can I ask if you are still self harming? I know it's an intrusive question. My reason for asking - if you no longer self harm, maybe that is a positive that can be bought up during your medical. It mag show that yiu are a survivor. That you can overcome tough obstacles.
Just remember, you only need to share, what you choose to share.
I wish you luck.

Re: Full medical disclosure

@Hector My advice is to say nothing. I don't and I won't. It's none of their business quite frankly. It doesn't affect my performance and I look after myself. Why would I want to go round telling potential bosses about things in my private life?

It's a weird question and I wish they didn't ask it.

Besides they can't fire you if they find out you didn't say anything. Every lawyer in the country would be lining up to take a case like that on.

Re: Full medical disclosure

That's wonderful that you are no longer self harming @Hector. That takes strength.
Unfortunately our MI's can sometimes make it tough for us when we want or need to work.
But as the saying goes 'one step at a time'. I think you're doing great. Just keep doing what you can. The rest will come later.
