Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Hello @tyme yes you need to look after yourself re iron levels. Some people also need vit B12. Me, I have to supplement vit D.

I hiccupped along today. Not a good start, but then remembered my inspirational reading and exercised. Started on chores but got diverted looking after the cat. Had to chase around to get a soft Elizabethan collar for him. I was lucky and managed to get one. The poor old boy now looks like a peach blossom with his pink pillowy collar.

I still have time to sort a bit of clutter tonight.

Woohoo! You go! @Dimity

I also have time tonight, but I'm not sure I have the energy.

When you wrote "I hiccupped along today", I imagined Bluey's 'bum shuffle' that he does along the floor. My little niece taught me about the bum shuffled. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mr2xJVoVzy8

Let me know how you go.

Gotta laugh through life, or we'll cry through instead 🙂 @Dimity

That warms my heart that you were saying my name, and that doing so helped you clean the house, @tyme .

Yes, I need a sense of purpose, so work really helps with that.

Are you OK with taking iron tablets? I'm not - it resulted in terrible constipation. (Sorry if TMI!) Having occasional iron infusions is much better for me, but more expensive.

Hope your "painful tired" eases.

I really appreciate being able to chat about my day with you, @Dimity . Thank you ❤️

Yes, it's a big effort leaving the house each time and I need to psych up for it. Even if it's just walking to the library to borrow some books, which is a positive outing. Let alone leaving the house for a medical appt or something I don't want to do.

I need to go out to post 2 birthday cards either today or tomorrow but really want to stay home both days! So I might put it off till tomorrow.

By "morning practice" do you mean a morning routine? Or something more profound and philosophical?

Today I need to wash my doona and mattress cover and hang them out. I kind of missed doing it on the hot days of summer. I've been thinking that it's beyond me, too difficult to do any more. Wrestling them into my medium sized machine, wrestling them out, doing it early enough for them to dry. I hope I can achieve it today. The task has grown so big in my mind that that's all I'm setting myself for today.

I hope you have a successful day today.

I did it! @Dimity @tyme The bedding is all on the line. I hope it'll dry. Feels like a big achievement. I'm going to reward myself with 2 warmed up hot cross buns and a coffee.

Well done @NatureLover . I hope the bedding dries well. I washed my doona recently and struggled to fit it n my washing machine.

I slept all morning and woke from my recurrent nightmare. It always follows the same themes but details differ.

I'm nervous going out too but more about the destination/s than the leaving.

I guess "morning practice" sounds a bit presumptuous. It's aspirational, not a routine (yet?). Yes it has a bit of a philosophical gloss as partly inspired by lectio divina. I dislike my poor sleep hygiene and complicated feelings around going to bed and getting up and facing another day. This is yet another attempt to get over that hurdle. I know I should get into sunlight as soon as possible but haven't got as far as making that a habit.

Thanks for these conversations.

Any cleaning/clearing done today @Dimity ?

@NatureLover , I washed my sheets today too. They are still slightly damp, but I've removed what I can off the line... only a few more things. Sounds like we both achieved SOMETHING 🙂

I sorted some fabric @tyme @NatureLover . And did a wash so late I'll leave it out overnight.

I'm feeling unwell, the stress of family stuff and the cat's decline and everything else has caught up and I'll take extra meds tonight. I hope I'm OK when I see the eye specialist in a couple of days.
