Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

@Dimity I don't think boxes should be quick and easy. I think they're hard and confronting. Well done for emptying another one.

Thanks for writing your response that disappeared.

Is your exercise class leader understanding that not everyone can do all the exercises?

i didn't know about that word, "churning". Very apt.

Thanks re my old workplace. The latest awful manager has resigned, so perhaps there's better times ahead there.

That's shocking that 4 out of 5 people at your old job went!

How often do you speak to your psychiatrist? Does he do talk therapy? To my mind he should've asked more about the loss of your other MH supports. 😣

Work ended up being very busy yesterday, with lots of technology problems. So today is the day - I must tackle the kitchen!! I also need to go out for groceries. I've been awake since 2.30am unfortunately. Next time I speak to my psychiatrist, I need to tell him about my deteriorating sleep.

Good luck today, my friend.

@NatureLover the tech problems sound frustrating and anxiety-provoking. Do you think it's affecting your sleep? Yes, it would be good to get your psychiatrist's advice.

My psychiatrist doesn't do therapy but asks what's happening. He checks on me every 6 or 7 weeks. It doesn't seem possible to go into long descriptions or explanations..

I hope tackling the kitchen is easier than you expect.

I'm hoping for a quiet day catching up on a few things.

Hahaha @NatureLover ! Does thowing all the clothes into the washing machine equate to "tackling" my clothes strewn all over the house?

If so, then yes! It looks like you'll have to tackle your part too!

You make me laugh lol.

@Dimity , cat training? I don' thave time to train the dog, let alone a cat. But yes, we don't hear much about cat training. Glad to hear that they can be very receptive to training!

Well done for throwing all your clothes into the washig machine! @tyme

I didn't hold up my end of the bargain! Was too depressed yesterday. Will try again today.

Thanks for explaining about your psychiatrist, @Dimity . I understand it's not possible to go into long explanations with him. My psychiatrist is the same.

Yes, possibly the tech problems are affecting my sleep. But I caught up on sleep last night, thankfully.

I failed to tackle the kitchen. Ended up being quite depressed yesterday. No sun didn't help. Will try again today.

How was your quiet day? Did you manage to catch up on what you wanted?

how'd you go today @NatureLover ?

My clothes are still slightly damp so I'm waiting for them to dry. Once dry, I'm going to iron them and put them away.

Thanks for making me accountable @NatureLover !

How has today been for you?

@Dimity , sitting with you too.

Anxiety over work and depression... sorry to hear @NatureLover .

I'm not getting things done either. I haven't really caught up.

I think my shifted sleep cycle doesn't help, in that I lose daylight hours in the mornings. Almost like SAD. it's a thought. If I have a particularly bad day I sit up most of the night and can't face sleeping.

I really must try harder. I started on another box today. It feels as though I'm slowly obliterating traces of past interests, and I might be grieving.

I trust you had a better day. And that work goes well tomorrow.

Hi @tyme , thanks for your post. I achieved nothing yesterday - too depressed again.

Well done re your clothes 👍

That's a worry that you can't face sleeping, @Dimity . Do you suffer nightmares? Do you know why you can't face sleeping?

I can understand how you would be grieving your past interests, when working through the boxes. It's a part of yourself. Sending hugs 🫂

I was depressed again yesterday, so gave up early in the day. Just read a couple of books. Which means today is stressful as I have a lot to do, including errands, watering and house cleaning. I hope I'm up to even half of it. Not a work day though.

I hope today went better than you expected @NatureLover . Reading sounds good selfcare for yesterday.

I associate my poor sleep habits with stress anxiety and c-ptsd. I guess sleep doesn't seem safe (night fears go back to early childhood). Seems linked to not feeling at home anywhere. I rarely remember nightmares but a common theme is being lost and alone in vaguely familiar places, among strangers. Which undoubtedly echoes my life experiences.

I'm not doing well at present. The cat's ill too, and needing meds which are hard to administer
