Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Hi @tyme , thank you for your offer of support and for the helpful information about MH nurses.

It seems MH nurses are hard to get, so I will ask my psychologist next time how she thought it might work.

One of my problems is that standard supports don't work for me, as I can't have anyone in my house due to the Hoarding Disorder and the OCD (germophobia), plus I freak out when going to a medical clinic or hospital. It seems MH nurses work out of clinics and hospitals, so that's not looking like it will work for me anyway.

Thanks again @tyme .

Are you still very low and struggling? Sending hugs and care 💚

Hello @NatureLover . Thankyou for asking how I am. I'm wary of replying as what you said to Bow on this thread could just as well have been said to me. You've spoken of trauma and trauma therapy and have expressed strong views on it but have said elsewhere you don't have cptsd yourself.

I've ended up feeling bruised and confused.

I understand that you've been going through a rough patch and I've made allowances for that. I'm hoping your mh support people can help. But I'm not sure of what you want from "mutual" support.

Wishing you a good weekend

Hi @Dimity , thanks for your honest reply, I really value that.

I'm very sorry for hurting and bruising you - please forgive me, if you can.

As far as I'm aware, you are keen to have a psychologist and do work in therapy to get feeling better. So no, I wouldn't have said that to you or even thought it.

However, since then I've been made aware of several things:

  • My understanding of trauma is limited
  • My thinking was too rigid
  • I was unfair
  • I don't really know anyone else's situation
  • And of course I was wrong to say what I did, which I realised straight away.

I understand that I've probably lost your friendship, which I'm very sad and sorry about.

Would you like me to stay off your Winter Solstice thread in future? Or perhaps stop trying to support you? Please let me know what you'd prefer (or anything else, including where else I might be wrong).

@NatureLover I'm glad you've given yourself time and space for reflection.

I'm lucky enough to have a psychologist at the moment but it hasn't been entirely under my control. People's access can be limited by their health, their finances, and other circumstances, and by the many gatekeepers including gps and the psychologists themselves.

You haven't lost my friendship and I'm not asking you to desist from any threads I started. If you like I'll continue to support you on your hoarding journey where I try not to judge what I don't understand - we're all different and carry our own baggage.

My mood/activity tracker has a quote for today

"There is something wonderfully bold and liberating about saying yes to our entire imperfect and messy life." – Tara Brach

Take care..
