Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Hi @Dimity , yesterday I woke up late and missed my early morning window for the forums, then had a frantically busy and exhausting day. Today is much slower thankfully and all I have on is a GP appt for a MHCP. Which is stressful for me as you know, due to the germ factor and a lot of disinfecting and washing afterwards.

On Sunday it was a beautiful sunny day - were you in your garden? I had 3 walks and it did me a lot of good. I also managed to clear some of the bags on the kitchen floor and wash them.

Reducing the incomings is a big achievement. I don't know if it means you can think differently about your workflow.

Thank you ❤️ The workflow is definitely less due to it. However I seem to have accepted that a lot of bags taking up space on the kitchen floor is normal. My psychologist is perturbed by it too. I don't seem to be able to change it...the lack of storage space to put groceries is one problem. My clutter-blindness is another problem.

There seems to be a roadblock with getting access to the stuff off-site, when I thought I could finally start moving ahead again. It's very difficult. And triggering.

Really sorry to hear this 😞 Your storage situation does sound very difficult, and the one with your sister also. And your financial situation too. Plus your health 😞 Sending wishes that all these difficulties will ease for you very soon... 🤞

Happy to hear about your daffodils. Our bluebells are out in the communal garden! But not the daffodils yet. Also the cherry-plum and nectarine trees have pretty blossom.

I guess you will find it hard today with no helper, and will miss the social aspect too. You can always tell me what you achieved / want to achieve / didn't feel up to - I am always interested in that stuff. Plus I really value our correspondence and friendship 💚

Just a curious question, @Dimity , you don't need to answer it if you'd rather not...

If you miss a day on the forums, does that mean you're not doing well?

(For me, if I miss one day, it might just mean that I woke up late or had too many things on that day. If I miss more than one in a row, it means I'm not coping. Just wondering how it is for you.)

Many thanks for your messages @NatureLover I'll digest them and respond properly when I can think more clearly. I trust you're OK and got your mhcp through. I'm not doing well atm but we'll catch up soon I hope.

Yes, I got the MHCP, thanks.

Thanks @NatureLover . Your blossoms and bluebells sound lovely. You seem to be tackling the kitchen bags quite often, so maybe you're doing better than you realise

Yes I'm missing my helpers very much. I'll have to make more effort to do more myself, and to try to reach out.

I have an immediate goal of finding missing paperwork somewhere in the livingroom or kitchen but so far today just did some general tidying in the bedroom and livingroom. I'll try to start this evening and continue tomorrow.

I am sorry, my friend 😢 I know how hard it is to make an effort when you're struggling.

General tidying is good, well done. Plus it helps to kick-start me sometimes...does that happen for you too?

I've fallen in a slump and haven't tackled the kitchen bags for days unfortunately. I also had a bad night and woke up late feeling depressed and grumpy. Hope I come good a bit later. If the sun comes out that should help.

Good luck finding those specific documents. I can see how that would be very daunting given the number of boxes in your living room. Sending wishes you get lucky quickly... 🤞
