Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

@pancakes you can't find the quote option as it's recently changed and is hidden now! Click on the three dots on the right hand side once you're in "reply", and an extra line of options including the quote marks will appear.

I tried your suggestion the first time I did a remote inspection in 202, but it doesn't work as you sign in to the technology, it runs through every room one after another, and then you submit it. It's a good idea though, thank you 🙂

You're amazing @NatureLover you've done so well! I am so grateful you have a wonderful neighbour who sounds like a true friend.

I'm always here for you like you have been for me, irl I'd help you clean and make a cuppa but this is the best I can do and being your friend is a gift I treasure.

Hi @NatureLover , that sounds really stressful! 5 days is short notice, so it's understandable that you're feeling anxious about the preparation for the inspection. I hope the landlord is understanding of your circumstances. While I don't have any advice for you, I am sitting with you through this 💛

Hey there @NatureLover, as a fellow OCDer, I am sending you the biggest ball of support and comfort I can muster 💙Whilst I don't quite have the germaphobe presentation of OCD, I do get the contamination thing. It's really hard, and usually it takes a fair bit of graded exposure and the like, so to have this thrust upon you, it's really awful.

If you ever want to chat OCD just @ me.

Hi @cloudcore ...the circumstances arer that I can't manage the house day-to-day, especially with the depression. My hoarding disorder and my germophobia clash, and I have piles of things piling up waiting till I can face disinfecting them. I doubt the real estate agent will be understanding...we have a new lady, who already hasn't replied to the email I sent 3 weeks back offering to pay the electricity bill, and also has given me only 5 days to prepare for the inspection (the last lady was lovely and used to give us 10-14 days' notice).

Inspections really throw me big time, so thank you for sitting with me.

I need to offload...I've got up at 5.30am and it's still dark...I can't face the difficult cleaning in the dark so wanted to get onto the forums while waking up over a coffee, seeing that I missed yesterday entirely on the forums.

I did a big day of cleaning yesterday...having said that, I realise it was only 4 hours, but some of the hardest cleaning to face psychologically and physically: vacuuming the house and scrubbing the shower. Vacuuming my 1BR unit took me almost 2 hours, what with moving the furniture and emptying the vacuum cleaner twice. I hardly ever vacuum as it gives me asthma. Scrubbing the shower is definitely my worst job, as I hadn't done it for ages and find it hard to do physically with my arthritis pain. So I am so proud of myself for doing both those in one day (previously unheard of). And 4 hours seems to be the limit of what I can cope with in terms of cleaning and tidying per day.

So now I have a lot of tasks left and am not sure whether I will get them all done by 10am. I have set 10am as my deadline - the remote rental inspection is actually due to be submitted tomorrow morning (Weds), but tomorrow thunderstorms are scheduled which would interrupty the WiFi and possible make the inspection technology unusable. It's meant to take 5-10 minutes to upload the inspection report, but usually takes an hour as the technology is dodgy and keeps making you go back to the start and reload the photos. So if I finish uploading the report at 11am, that gives me half an hour for lunch before my 2-hour dentist appt at 12pm. And I can't submit the report this afternoon, as sun on the windows will show that I haven't cleaned them! Such a lot of anxieties and fears 😞

The tasks I have left include 3 of my hardest tasks still left: scrubbing the kitchen floor, scrubbing the bathroom floor, and tackling the toilet. Toilet germs are a horror for me with the germophobia. Floors also are a trigger for me. Those tasks will be hard. Then 8 more tasks including scrubbing the stove. I actually don't mind scrubbing the stovetop, but it does take a while.

I know I am talking about what would be minutiae to other people, or just normal things, but these are things I can't cope with in my daily life - huge things to face and accomplish, for me. I really need regular help with them, but can't cope with a cleaner or helper touching my things. It really all comes back to 3 of my MIs: depression, hoarding disorder and germophobia. The germophobia and the hoarding disorder clash, leading to huge piles of things building up in the house, on the floor and benches, waiting for me to beable to face disinfecting them. I have already put 5 boxes' worth of mess in my neighbour's shed for this inspection 😞

Thanks for listening...inspections are something that I find almost impossible to cope with. I hope someone reads this.

I always read your posts @NatureLover 😊🌷🍀

Im sorry its all so hard. Your clashing MIs must make life extremely difficult for you on a daily basis.

You have made great progress so far, and you are nearly there now.

Well done.

Oh @NatureLover that does sound incredibly difficult, I'm sorry it's such a struggle. I hate inspections too, I get anxious but nothing compared to what you suffer. You really have done so well. I know the pressure is huge so you feel like you're drowning but you sound like you're almost there? You do have this, I can feel it 🙏
