Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Hey @Pippyl if you're interested in parts, you may like Internal Family Systems Therapy, it sounds like what you're describing (learning to listen to and accept the OCD rather than fighting it, and seeing it as what it is trying to do for you).

It's one of my favs, have found it very useful in both my own healing journey and in my therapy work 😉

Yes @Jynx !! Ifs I found it by accident as my psych and I were working on something similar. I've seen all the ifs mindfulness I forgot his name. But my psych and I have been working on the inner child, protector and some others we've identified. I was thinking of getting his book. I find I'm the moment of OCD other advice isn't helpful but for this I can jus mentally talk to that part and it does help but I admit I've become lazy with it

I also find parts work helpful it's basically talking to diff parts of yourself so I indentify OCD as a part coz I'm always at war without myself and jus befriending that part in the moment of OCD rather than try to fight it.

Interesting, @Pippyl and @Jynx , I don't know anything about parts work. Thanks.

Hello dear @NatureLover

Today is the first day I'm on my own at home and other than work not being something to someone. I'm a mess...

I called Grief line, they were beautiful.

I started back at work yesterday for 8 hours, plus spent two assisting Mum, it's all too much.

I googled burnout and I fear I tick all of the boxes. I am so tired...

I wish I could just take time now. I wish I wasn't such an integral role at work, just a number that wasn't needed or missed.

Working, supporting my boy and his plan and was always a lot to juggle, now with Mum and grieving it's too much. I don't know what to do...

@Anastasia my dear friend - you said "its too much i dont know what to do" - you need to take some time off work. Can you ring /email your boss and tell him you're burng out and it could be weeks or monthsoff work if you dont take the time off now?

Sorry am at work but this is urgent. 💔

Hi there @Anastasia,

Sitting here with you this morning and hearing that you are juggling a heavy load – grief really can be heavy, both figuratively and literally. I remember when I lost a loved one I felt it in my bones, my limbs were heavy and it had a real physical quality to it that made it difficult to get on with my daily routine.

I'm wondering whether you were able to have a discussion with a manager at your work about taking any additional leave you may need, and also whether you have a counsellor/therapist that you can talk some of these feelings and concerns through on a more regular basis?

Be gentle with yourself,
Rhye ☘️
