Lacking direction, unsure of what I need to do and generally just fed up.......

Lacking direction, unsure of what I need to do and generally just fed up.......

Hi all.

I have made a new thread here. I need to do this to make it feel real and important or else it'll just be another comment I make on an already existing thread. There are many areas in my life where I feel like giving up. I don't really care how irrational it may sound. I don't care if it's silly. It's just how it is for me at the moment.

I've never been as good as what I am now (on paper) and I put that down to the supportive environment here on the forums.

But I am struggling again.

There are many things on my mind and in my life that are causing me to rethink a lot of what I thought I knew about family and friends. I need to review some things again.

I am also getting lazy around my physical health and diet. I eat a lot more rubbish and I've put on some weight (in the bad way). I used to be quite skinny but then I went to the gym and sorted that out. But lately I have had 0 motivation for exercise because I find it so boring. It's just really boring. I have no enjoyment in it anymore. I think I never really did, but I did it just to be healthy. Now I just don't care. I don't see any utility in doing it anymore.

I feel like giving up on dating. There are just too many fake people in the world and I am exhausted by it. I am also thinking that my lack of relationship in early 20s and late teens is a turn off for many girls my age. I'm trying to see the benefits in my situation but I don't believe there are any.

My sister's health is progressively getting worse. So is her social health. She is having fights with her friends. Mum babies her about a lot. It's not helping. Dad has given up I think. And he is also likely doing "things" behind my mum's back and she is turning a blind eye to it. I have no input on any of that so I simply have to sit by and watch it go down.

I hate my job but getting money is important. I had this conversation with my parents the other day. They seem to have the belief that I can get into something I want to do. I don't. I am trying to find the light and the way forward with that but I don't know how they can see it. I have a desire to go into journalism/writing. But that environment is so political and I don't think I'm able to "pick a side". My internship taught me how I can do it. But it's just such an effort. I don't know if I have the stamina to get there.

I think that's all I can think of for now. I am sitting here on my pc playing a videogame and waiting for food to arrive. I am worried I will just get worse if nothing is done. But that urgency seems small compared to anything else I can do.

In a nutshell - I am not well.

Hey Hams, @MDT

I love listening to calming house music, used to listen to a lot of it back in the day.

I enjoyed the track you posted. Thanks

@MDT Hey Hans you did well by leaving when the drugs came out my friend. Arent they a bit old to be messing with that kind of thing......You are a very sensible young man. Keep staying away from that sort of thing. peax

Indeed pea @Bunniekins
Many are in their early 20s.
It was a rather juvenile affair. There were some people i met last year so that was good i guess.
But it is what it is hey my friend. Too many juveniles can warp your sense of self maybe.

Just getting some coffee now and a bacon roll.

Heading home as now seats here lol.

Gotta look into what Russian novel I can start reading today. Also gotta clean up room for air con installing tomorrow.

I also had a good chat to a friend about my career prospects and he gave me some good pointers.

Onwards with Hams

Hi @MDT . Glad to see you walked away when the party you went to had drugs involved. To be, that shows both courage and strength as well as well as bravery so well done my friend.

Have you given your career choice anymore further consideration? I just saw before on SBS news that the federal government is decreasing degrees in areas of mental health such as social work and psychology due to the big need for people to work in those areas because of this pandemic crisis. Is that an area you'd consider? Maybe something like policy management since you're into writing and research? I see you're no longer a Community Guide so maybe this isn't an area for you and I may have mistaken your career choices? If so, I'm very sorry! It was just something I saw and I thought of you that's all.

What I do know is that there is going to be a big need for mental health people in 3 years time so by the time I'm finished my degree, there should be work for me in the areas of case management which is where I want to take my degree. My friend is currently being case managed here in Melbourne for her mental health and let's just say I'm not impressed with her case manager as the case manager has a thing for being very lazy and not doing what is expected of a case manager in my opinion like actually finding people relevant supports. This case manager likes thinking that google can do it all if you get my drift!

Gotta go but I'll try and check back in later. Have a great Sunday!

How does one become a case manager @Judi9877
That sounds like something I could be interested in.

And yes re the party yesterday - I didn't do anything I didn't want to. I was watching them do it though. People make odd choices hey.

Yeah in regards to writing and research I guess it is what it is. The job market for those skills is a little construed in favour of people who spend heaps of money on another degree.

I have been looking at diploma level business courses as a viable option. I guess, simply put, I want to be able to combine my skills with employment prospects.

My friend provided some good advice to me yestersay which I was thankful for. This friend of mine came to Australia in 2017 from India and he is now moving to Melbourne. I guess his is a story worth hearing in its own right but also due to the lessons one learns when making these moves hey

@MDT

Well done Hamza - leaving the party when you did - at least you showed up and you didn't get into the sub-culture there - why on earth people think they are having fun getting blasted in public? It's their choice but how boring.

It seems you are looking into things that are more profitable - your writing skills can be used in many different work-situations - not everyone can put there ideas together on paper - and adding to your degree with options that will suit you can only help. The hard part is getting yourself noticed - putting yourself out to write resumes and making changes won't be easy but people do it all the time and I wish you the best -

Which Russian novel might you read? I had to read Crime and Punishment. What a battle - it was for my HSC and I was in mty 30s - tough yards. I saw the movie late in the year and had a profound wish that I had read the movie (sub-titles) before I saw the book. (Groan) I did write on it for the exam and passed - so I must have understood it.

One I could recomment is Stanislau Lem's Solaris. It is science fiction which might be the reason I liked it. Another is Yevgeny Zamyatin's We which I found to be brilliant. It takes all tastes to read General and Comparative Literature and I remember battling through Doctor Zhivago Where all the drama takes place on a railway station - or was that the movie - intriguing though. I will be intested in reading what you do finally decide

I've read Seneca too - as I said - it takes all kinds - I have totally forgotten what I read at the time - but whatever we read does broaden our horizons

I wish you the best - I am sure you will feel better when you get out of the drain you are working in - I hope that happens soon
