Lacking direction, unsure of what I need to do and generally just fed up.......

Lacking direction, unsure of what I need to do and generally just fed up.......

Hi all.

I have made a new thread here. I need to do this to make it feel real and important or else it'll just be another comment I make on an already existing thread. There are many areas in my life where I feel like giving up. I don't really care how irrational it may sound. I don't care if it's silly. It's just how it is for me at the moment.

I've never been as good as what I am now (on paper) and I put that down to the supportive environment here on the forums.

But I am struggling again.

There are many things on my mind and in my life that are causing me to rethink a lot of what I thought I knew about family and friends. I need to review some things again.

I am also getting lazy around my physical health and diet. I eat a lot more rubbish and I've put on some weight (in the bad way). I used to be quite skinny but then I went to the gym and sorted that out. But lately I have had 0 motivation for exercise because I find it so boring. It's just really boring. I have no enjoyment in it anymore. I think I never really did, but I did it just to be healthy. Now I just don't care. I don't see any utility in doing it anymore.

I feel like giving up on dating. There are just too many fake people in the world and I am exhausted by it. I am also thinking that my lack of relationship in early 20s and late teens is a turn off for many girls my age. I'm trying to see the benefits in my situation but I don't believe there are any.

My sister's health is progressively getting worse. So is her social health. She is having fights with her friends. Mum babies her about a lot. It's not helping. Dad has given up I think. And he is also likely doing "things" behind my mum's back and she is turning a blind eye to it. I have no input on any of that so I simply have to sit by and watch it go down.

I hate my job but getting money is important. I had this conversation with my parents the other day. They seem to have the belief that I can get into something I want to do. I don't. I am trying to find the light and the way forward with that but I don't know how they can see it. I have a desire to go into journalism/writing. But that environment is so political and I don't think I'm able to "pick a side". My internship taught me how I can do it. But it's just such an effort. I don't know if I have the stamina to get there.

I think that's all I can think of for now. I am sitting here on my pc playing a videogame and waiting for food to arrive. I am worried I will just get worse if nothing is done. But that urgency seems small compared to anything else I can do.

In a nutshell - I am not well.

Yes @NatureLover
And also the lack of knowing what to do about work and further study and where I can go in life

Yes, that must be really frustrating @MDT .

Are you seeing your psych weekly at the moment?

Hi @MDT sorry to hear that

My situation is different - threatened job loss through big restructure, and feeling like I'm too old to change direction - but the anxiety and depression, I get it.

What are you up to today

Re: Lacking direction, unsure of what I need to do and generally just fed up.......

every 2 weeks @NatureLover

Yeah it is frustrating.

I am trying to approach this with an open mind and look at what the best option may be but it seems like that is impossible

It's not like I enjoy it and the only real reason I can see myself staying there longer and keeping my job is because it is money and it's decent pay for rubbish work. I am 26 and have to figure some things out soon. I'm not really interested in people saying to me (they often do) that I am still young. I think that applies to early 20s. I am fearful that if I leave this job then I won't find another due to the covid recession. This is why I am even trying to apply for volunteer work. To simply boost my CV and skills would be a good idea.

THe nature of the job is so gormless that it's not like staying there for longer makes me more employable. It doesn't. It just means I have money coming in. I don't think I'll be moving out soon so I can't see that changing. I can't see so many damn things and my vision is clouded by so much.

hi @frog thanks for dropping in my friend

I can hear how bleak you feel, @MDT 😞

Can I ask you - can you stand your job?

Re: Lacking direction, unsure of what I need to do and generally just fed up.......

it's also a unique time also though @NatureLover

I think my parents are understanding of the fact that work is what landed me back at the hospital.

I just want to make good decisions. My intentions are not to slack off and waste away because I am afraid of that.

If i had my own house or a family or a relationship or something like this then it would give me a reason to stay at work - I don't have one of those and I can't see myself making any reason any time soon for that. In the absence of a reason to go to work aside from money -what is there?

Re: Lacking direction, unsure of what I need to do and generally just fed up.......

I hate everything about it @NatureLover
I hate the processes, I hate the environment, I hate the hours, I hate the people I work with (except 2 people), I hate that I am basically doing a job that could be replaced by a computer, I hate the fact that I've been there since September 2019 and that I have barely made any money, I hate the severe lack of work ethic people have, I also hate the fact that in order to get a permanent contract (I was a temp worker) I had to go to a 3 hour interview to get offered a job I already did, I hate it all. There is only one thing I like - but that is taken up and I therefore have to do the meaningless job.

Is there an option to go part time @MDT ? If so maybe you could combine paid work with volunteering to broaden your base,

Re: Lacking direction, unsure of what I need to do and generally just fed up.......

it's already a part time job @frog
it is 3 days per week

Re: Lacking direction, unsure of what I need to do and generally just fed up.......

I'm sorry you hate everything about it, that must be miserable, @MDT . 😞

But if you absolutely cannot stand it, if going back will totally bring on a nervous breakdown - well there's your answer, I reckon.

If you hate it all but can stand it while you look for other work, then that's your answer.

(I know it's probably not that simple)
