Lacking direction, unsure of what I need to do and generally just fed up.......

Lacking direction, unsure of what I need to do and generally just fed up.......

Hi all.

I have made a new thread here. I need to do this to make it feel real and important or else it'll just be another comment I make on an already existing thread. There are many areas in my life where I feel like giving up. I don't really care how irrational it may sound. I don't care if it's silly. It's just how it is for me at the moment.

I've never been as good as what I am now (on paper) and I put that down to the supportive environment here on the forums.

But I am struggling again.

There are many things on my mind and in my life that are causing me to rethink a lot of what I thought I knew about family and friends. I need to review some things again.

I am also getting lazy around my physical health and diet. I eat a lot more rubbish and I've put on some weight (in the bad way). I used to be quite skinny but then I went to the gym and sorted that out. But lately I have had 0 motivation for exercise because I find it so boring. It's just really boring. I have no enjoyment in it anymore. I think I never really did, but I did it just to be healthy. Now I just don't care. I don't see any utility in doing it anymore.

I feel like giving up on dating. There are just too many fake people in the world and I am exhausted by it. I am also thinking that my lack of relationship in early 20s and late teens is a turn off for many girls my age. I'm trying to see the benefits in my situation but I don't believe there are any.

My sister's health is progressively getting worse. So is her social health. She is having fights with her friends. Mum babies her about a lot. It's not helping. Dad has given up I think. And he is also likely doing "things" behind my mum's back and she is turning a blind eye to it. I have no input on any of that so I simply have to sit by and watch it go down.

I hate my job but getting money is important. I had this conversation with my parents the other day. They seem to have the belief that I can get into something I want to do. I don't. I am trying to find the light and the way forward with that but I don't know how they can see it. I have a desire to go into journalism/writing. But that environment is so political and I don't think I'm able to "pick a side". My internship taught me how I can do it. But it's just such an effort. I don't know if I have the stamina to get there.

I think that's all I can think of for now. I am sitting here on my pc playing a videogame and waiting for food to arrive. I am worried I will just get worse if nothing is done. But that urgency seems small compared to anything else I can do.

In a nutshell - I am not well.

HEy forumites. Firstly, thanks for your comments and supports last night. I was really struggling. I was even texting my mum about how mad I was.

As I went to bed last night it occurred to me that I've been going to work non stop (with no leave, or break but only 3 sick days) since the end of February. Unlike many I have still been going to work, still using public transport and still being employed.

I think this may be causing an extra level of stress for me.

I am considering contacting my boss (who understood why I wanted to be moved from the place I am currently at due to the staff) and he said he appreciated the honesty. So from that I determined he seems like an understanding person.

I am now considering asking for 2 weeks of medical leave or similar. It's public sector so I can't imagine that they need an essay as to why I can't work. But I am of the opinion that I need a small break beacuse I'm really struggling and I think work is the cause of it.

I have found it really hard to get up and go to work, found it hard to interact while at work, get dumped with things I can't do because no one taught me and i get toxic responses about how they don't want to teach me... It's not a good place. It's affecting me. I know I shouldn't let it, but there comes a point where I can't help it and I have to say "enough is enough, give me a god damn break"

I know I am fortunate to still have a job in today's covid world but I must say that this fact seems to be lost on so many people I work with and all they do is complain. I can't stand it.

I think this is the worst my mental health has been for some time.

I'm interested to hear what you think.

I will want to apply for this ASAP if I do it because I need to put in medical certificates etc.

I'm just going to head out for some coffee and a muffin in what I hope is the sunshine. So I will be replying on my phone while I'm there.

hey @Bill16 and @MDT

i think some time off would be benificial to you @MDT you should not feel guilty about having a job, it was a lottery and you should not feel bad, you need to put your mental wellbeing first always.

if you are in a better head space you can do your job a lot better.

i would still look for other jobs to see what is out there. it never hurts to look and apply.

i hope the coffee and muffin was nice. sorry i was not around, i was working in my shed.

Hey forumites.

Just an update.

I have been given my certificate from my gp and he seemed to understand my reasoning as to why I just wanted next week off.

I explained this to my dad and he was a bit hesitant to say the least - "you mustn't let it worry you this much" which to be honest annoyed me a bit because I know this already. The reality is that I've been dealing with these problems since 2013 and the worst it ever got was when I went to hospital. Yesterday I thought I had to go back. I was that bad.

IT doesn't help that my dad also works in the same department (trying hard to be anonymous here too). For some of my colleagues this was a "big thing" and they thought it was a novelty. This made it hard for me because they expected me to know what to do. Because I didn't fit the bill.

I need to list a few things that made me question myself at this place:

- Colleagues not saying hi to me when they walk past me, just looking down while they happily say hi to other people

- Not being taught what to do, even if i was asking for help. They brush over details or explain things to me like I am an idiot.

- Superiors placing things on my desk asking me to take it to someone else who is right next to them

- Sass and attitude from colleagues who want to make light of the fact that I don't know what to do even if I ask for help

- People looking at me weirdly like I'm an alien

It's hard to describe. Is it bullying? No I don't think so. It's just very unprofessional, very tacky and I just expect better in a work environment.

I know that I am fortunate to have a job. I know too that coronavirus hasn't affected me much at all. However, this does not make me immune to other things that are going on in my life. I'm not going to quit my job.

That would be foolish and the equivalent of a childish reaction.

I guess I just see this as some type of challenge - one that I have met every time I go to work.

It's a weird time and I honestly find that having to justify myself and what I do is tedious and dull. Hardly a way to live.

Hey @MDT sounds like you have a lot going on. Good that your GP has given you a certificate so that you can have time out from a stressful work environment. I hope you will get a chance to see your other supports (psychologist or psychiatrist?) to work out some stuff.

Take it easy Ham🌟
