Difficult to communicate

Difficult to communicate

Have started recently with a new counseller/therapist and finding it difficult feeling my way with communicating

my feelings of loss over past years. Loss of loved friends,partner/husband and my general physical health.

This has led to anxiety and depression that has to be met with each day. Consolation through having good,

kind friends has been and still is a solace. Everyday is different and it brings new hope as I feel myself

being more accepting of the highs and lows that goes with mental health problems. This forum is a wonder-

ful outlet for so many people to know that other people know what one is going through and it is like having another family. Thanks for being there. Bimby2

Re: Difficult to communicate

@Bimby2. Sometimes when my psychologist asks how my week has been, I feel like handing over my mood journal and letting him read it. It shows the ups and downs of each day. If I have had a 'trigger' & have now moved on, I don't want to rehash it. Talking about feelings are hard. I find it easier to writeabout them.
Maybe that's something that you could do. Write a bit of your story & show it to your therapist.
All the best

Re: Difficult to communicate

Hi @Bimby2,

I agree with @utopia - writing your feelings in a journal is very theraputic. I find that if I write about my feelings for a few days and then read back over what I have written, that this actually helps me to find the right words to describe my feelings when I have to; for instance in a therapy session.

Not all of us are great with words. A good therapist knows how to draw you out of yourself and ask specific questions to get you talking.

It seems like you are good at expressing yourself hear on Sane forums in writing, so that makes me feel that writing every day or so could be very good for you.

Just recently I had a bad experience where I woke up in the night and felt anxious and wished I had someone to talk to. I was very restless and teary. I started to write everything down and within minutes I began to feel better. It was like a relief to name the things in writing that I was experiencing. I was even able to go back to sleep afterwards.

When I read through my writing the next morning I even had a few new, little insights into my issues.

Re: Difficult to communicate

@Sahara. Wow. Journal writing is really helping you. It's awful when you have an attack in the middle of tge night. You can't exactly call a friend at 3am.

Re: Difficult to communicate

Hi @utopia,

yes, writing is working for me. I find almost anything works for me when I am in a complete emotional state, as long as I take action and follow through. Doing nothing is the worst thing you can do.
