How many people tell the truth on their first appointment with a new Psychiatrist?

How many people tell the truth on their first appointment with a new Psychiatrist?
Hey, I understand that the Psychiatrist is there to help, but barely 30 minutes in, and they have a clipboard and pen, and say, do you have suicidal ideations? Do you ever use/ abuse drugs / medications? Etc.
I just feel that saying '"well, I think about wanting to die pretty much constantly, and I take amphetamines for 4 days and nights with no sleep, I barely eat, and I currently have about 27 different projects on the go varying from learning lock picking and programming to scratch building the ultimate Bluetooth headphones....."
without a little bit of context, ease in, lubrication, etc, that things might not end up particularly well for me.
Anyone get that/ do that?
Cos sometimes I'm not entirely sure it's the best approach. But then again, my previous 3 psychiatrists all ended up prescribing me what I told them to, without any useful contributions, even after all the cards were shown.

Hi @Simona, feels like a rejection when they can't see us anymore, the last thing we need, try not to blame yourself, its something with them. Ask around to find a psychologist who fits. In the meantime there's a lot of self helps groups, 12 Step groups, like 'GROW' or common interest (hobby) groups, church groups... The library has lots of teaching dvd's, meditation cd's & reading material. MINDFULNESS & self-compassion therapy have helped me a lot. Russ Harris has good books on this - "The Happiness Trap" & 'Reality Slap' which I'm enjoying this year. Keep trying to find the wright counsellor, some social workers also do great counselling & some uni students take clients as prac work at some university psychology departments. Its a journey - looking within, stay connected with the world around you & hand to task too, don't give up 🍁

I always try to tell the truth. I'm usually pretty garrulous and fairly expressive, if awkward or tactless at times. When it's too difficult to tell the truth, I just don't speak. Outside of the therapist's office, my friends, etc. notice that I'm silent, and ask me what's up, so I feel like I have permission to speak my mind. Thus far, none of my therapists seem to have twigged to this basic fact about me. My all-time world record is two months of appointments where I was mostly mute. I keep having difficulties with my psychs being too darn pushy, so take it with a pinch of salt.

I saw a psychiatrist for first time in many years today.
In one half hour session I am no longer schizoaffective, I have a personality disorder, am ambivalent, do I think I am one half child one half adult, do I think I am one half my mother and one half my father. He cannot help me, has referred me onto a psychologist. Oh well. I went wanting to know if the meds were ok and he said yes. So if only I could do away with the invasive thoughts suggesting it's all been a ruse to get at me, then fine. Because I don't know the answers to anything, I guess it's perceived as I don't care. But I do care, so much. Else I wouldn't be so distressed about not knowing. I am more confused than ever and what the hell. The other guy saw me over the course of a month at least, and in one session we just do away with all his observations and diagnosis. I don't get any of this or the system.
He asked me, "so if you right now were having to argue your case for disability pension, what would you say?". Is it because I couldn't answer at all, because I couldn't in my mind decide locate myself as there and then and hearing the question and why the question and sorry, why am I not here what was the question? ... I am ambivalent? Why do I feel so hurt and vulnerable? I am sooo confused right now.
I really think at least 2 sessions would make more sense. It all seems such an unexact science to me. I don't trust that they aren't indeed playing with me.

@Sehnsucht, don't worry about the duplicate but if you want you could email the moderators team@saneforums.org and ask them to delete it. They've done it for me.
Sorry you feel confused about your MH. My seasoned understanding is that we can recover from even severe MI. Relapse, recover... Also, doctors sometimes use slightly different assessment methods. I don't think they're 'playing' with you. Sometimes a good response to medication is also confirmation of MI. Have you ever been hospitalised & properly assessed 24hrs x 7days minimum? You could get a second opinion privately too.
Unfortunately there's frauds out there that want to get pensioned off & lie. Some professionals wrongly assume genuine people are trying to manipulate the system. Its hard to tell sometimes i guess.
My brains a bit tired tonight so better stop. I know others will comment.
Hang in there. One step at a time, one day at a time 🌷💜
Do something kind for yourself tomorrow.

I so agree with you @Former-Member it seems to be happening everywhere at the moment. their seems to be a fight on to get people to use phycologist even if you have a digonosed MI and see a Psychiatrist one more to the list we have to decide on when all we want is the best treatment possible. love to go to hospital for a week for observation. But they seem to use the bandaid treatment for me fix me with meds then take me off i relasap then back on meds With me Talking to them does'nt help had a great childhood had a normal teenage years. I don't drink or take illegal Drugs. it's so frustrating

Re: How many people tell the truth on their first appointment with a new Psychiatrist?
Well, I spent 2 yrs on an adolescent ward (effectively, though there was time spent home in amongst it).
My former diagnosis was made as an outpatient, after having admitted myself to an adult ward, but had to barter my way out of it as the place was horrifying. I spent months with that psychiatrist from memory.
I get that these things are transient, they shift and evolve and respond to the stimulus in front of them. I get that. But the diagnostic system doesn't. If he'd said, "You're no longer schizoaffective", I'd have had no issue with it. But he denied the past diagnosis, and with it, quite a lot I had begun to identify with. Then to tell me I have a persobality disorder, but not which one, how else am I supposed to feel but that he is either playing me, or I am playing everyone and myself a fraud? Do I seriously have to ask him, "which one?". Why be so obscure in first place? Did he want me to ask or not ask? What the hell? Argh.
To psychologist I go. Who will probably refer me back to a psych claiming too hard basket. Why did I bother trying to be proactive, talk, and have concerns for myself? Should I have just trusted GP that my dose is inconsequential in regards to any psychiatric therapeutic value? Or conversely, not at all enough to trigger side effects? Or was it responsible to seek a psychiatrist's clearance? If I had not sought it, and something happens, would I then not get blamed for not reaching out?
Annnd after all the effort, my stupid neuralgia got 100x worse today. What do I do, get GP to up the dose? Then what? Does anyone oversee my welfare then? Or do we wait and hope for the best, but section me if it turns out otherwise. Ffs.
