Rant.... I just need to rant... I'm sorry.

Rant.... I just need to rant... I'm sorry.

If I have to deal with one more sob story about someone who had depression/anxiety and yet still managed to get out of bed/work/study/eat but it was soooo hard and all they did was 'eat better' and 'exercised more' and they got better so why aren't I just doing that?

I'm going to yell.

These people have no idea what mental illness can be like. They don't have the struggles of the daily medication that sedates you and saps your energy, the humiliation of having to live with your parents as an adult, not being able to get a job because you've lost your last job cause you were insane, fearing for my future cause if it wasn't for my parents I'd be homeless.

They have no idea.

Mild anxiety and depression seems to be a strengthener- look what I got through, I'm strong. And if you can't kick it you're just a failure. Scum that can't be worth the effort.

I'm sorry for ranting. I'm just a touch negative and the above probably shouldn't end up on facebook.

Hi @Former-Member

I hear ya!

I'm glad you're able to use this as a useful outlet (rather than facebook, as you mentioned).

It's sad that many don't know the varying degrees of mental health and there aren't more of a variety of 'stories' being shared out there about the diverse range of mental illnesses.

May I ask (and it's okay not to answer), was this brought on by something in the media or advertisement? Or an experience someone shared with you or advice you were given?

PS: you never have to apologise for ranting here 🙂

Re: Rant.... I just need to rant... I'm sorry.

I work at a university and its exams, so we have lots of students coming in with special consideration forms and I'm having to read their statements. That combined with family attitudes and having lost my full time job due to reduced cognitive capacities due to mental health and the way I was treated in that workplace.
And having to read staff memos about 'supporting staff with disabilities' and how we can fight mental health with exercise and meditation and diet.
I'm just being hit from all sides and I needed a rant.

Re: Rant.... I just need to rant... I'm sorry.

There are other stressors, but I'm worried someone I know might read this and know who I am if I divulge.
I guess I'm a horrible person cause I can't show compassion or celebrate others' mental health victories cause I'm bitter and sad.

Re: Rant.... I just need to rant... I'm sorry.

I don't think you're bitter... and i think its ok to feel angry that you're not as simply cured... Someone explained to me the difference between moderate and severe versions of the same label are very differnt to treat and manage. mild to moderate can often be 'cured' while severe/chronic can be managed.. but that was also only one persons opinion and open to debate too.

you can be angry.. its what you do with it that counts 🙂 and letting it out here is probably better than writing some notes back to some of those 'misinformed-and-totally-in-their-own-healthy-little-idealistic-view-of-the-world-bubble,' what you really think.

Need to have another rant!

Just read my discharge summary and they talk about me loosing jobs cause I couldn't manage the workload - Ah, no I lost that job cause of the fing 6mg of C23H27FN4O2 you put me on! You take that much and try and see how you function on a daily basis! Yes, it saved my life, but it also ruined my life. I lost 3 years due to that medication and I've still not got my life back from it.

And don't continue to make snarky comments about my weight Mr Cardiologist - again; you try taking these fing meds and tell me how much weight YOU gain.

- Rant over -

@Former-Member. A very justified rant.
Sometimes I wonder if the psychiatrists even listen to what we are saying - when I read their reports. Aaarrrggghhh.
Just try and remember, you know the truth. That Discharge Summary - it's just words. You know the real story.

I hate side effects.
I really hate side effects.
I really really hate side effects.
I mean I really F-ING hate side effects.
And my psych doesn't have any appointments for another month. So at the very least a whole month of sedation and nystagmus fun times. 😡
