Please help me

Please help me

I know right now that I have ADHD but some of the stuff I'm doing doesn't sound like ADHD symptoms. I want to know if the stuff I am doing are symptoms of some mental illness and if so what can I do to get help. So let me explain, first off I am somewhat of a hermit. I can make friends at school but whenever they try to invite me to hang out I make excuses as to why I can't hang out. I would ususlly go home just to play video games or go on my computer all day. I am starting to break that habit but for the longest time I just did not want to be with any peers. Also I had social anxiety for a long time. I just beat it like half a year ago. So you're probably thinking right now oh I'm probably just an introverted person but trust me it gets worse. So this next part I had to build up a lot of courage to openly talk about because it's just so goddamn embarrassing. I have a real bad hygiene problem. I don't clean my room, I go weeks without showering, don't change my bed sheets enough and etc. Wow that's embarrassing 😞 . I heard that this is called self neglect and I read the cause for this and it sounds like the reason I have poor hygiene. I just don't have the motivation. Idk y but I don't have the motivation to do anything to I would say better myself. In a way I don't care for myself but I want to. And this is the biggest problem I have that I want to deal with because it's nasty. But I find it kinda weird that I have acknowledged the problem but still need help, you'd think me not wanting to be like this is all it would take to make a change but for some reason I'm still not motivated. Also I am not motivated at all in school but idk that could just be a teenager thing. Lastly A LOT goes on in my head. I know it is normal for human beings to have an internal dialogue but my mind is constantly racing. This might not even be a mental illness trait and personally don't mind it for the most part so I'll keep it short so I can wrap this up. ALL the time I am engaged in like really deep thought. There is never a moment my brain is in autopilot. Like every little thing I do I have to think massively about. That's the best I could do to explain it cause it's hard to explain. Also I always feel this sense of like whats the point of anything. I had these feelings and thoughts I can remember since preschool but only started really thinking about them in freshman year of high school two years ago because the thoughts were too complex and scary back then. I'll be doing something and then the thought that everything is meaningless, everyone I know and I and my probable future children will die and even someday humanity will die so whats the point. That type of thinking happens a lot. So what do you guys think what I want to know the most is why am I like this about my hygiene and why do I have no motivation for anything? Oh yeah and sometimes I get stressed out and anxious over absolutely nothing.

Hello @qwert Sometimes on other threads a few of us fess up to our less than stellar cleaning rituals. A bit depends on how old you are. Some people learn better house and personal hygiene skills as they mature. Now I am an old lady I do find some cleaning jobs actually help me calm and settle .. I wasn't like that in my 20s! I am also a bit introverted and had to work very hard with emotional reading and social skills. I am not great at it now, but get by. There are some things that you can learn like any skill, once we get over some self-consciousness about it. There is no right answer about these things we all need to develop a personal style that works for us. Glad to see you post, and hope you get benefit out of the forum Apple

Hello @qwert_zxc

You have already stated the reason for your lack of motivation/hygiene - you don't see the point or meaning in anything/life. Our actions are a reflection of our thoughts - if we see no reason to get up or see no purpose in life we will lack motivation to do anything. So to change that we have to see a point - a reason for being.

This is not a mental illness but a pessimistic attitude that could lead to depression if it went on long enough, so it's good that you came onto this forum for early prevention and self improvement. That takes initiative! Well done! You were motivated to reach out for help because you want to improve your life - so you do see a point in your quality of existence. A good start.

Its about finding out "what makes you tick" and pursuing this as goals. Finding what you enjoy, are good at and where you believe you can make a difference in your own life, in others and the wider community that will create meaning in your life. It's getting to know yourself more - a journey we all undertake in life. It can start small - an inspiration to explore interests/passions and discovering along the way what matters to you and then taking it from there. It may not always go smooth but we work it out as we go and in trying we build self confidence, inner strength and our own unique character.

Starting with small things like cleaning your room and having a shower - why? Because you will feel better - a good starting point. Little steps each day to challenge yourself and build self discipline because there is always a point to trying if we look for the good in things and recognise small achievements initially. It will lift our mood - that's the point to start with. Try it for awhile and then note how you feel afterwards - better.

I don't think you give yourself enough credit for what you have achieved already - overcoming social anxiety (no small feat) and feeling that something is wrong and doing something about it here. Pat yourself on the back. My daughter is untidy and "does not have any shame about it!! You do! That's a sign of maturity - good insight that will take you further in self improvement 🙂

You stated that you are a deep thinker. In any chosen area of study or expertise that is a good trait to have as you put deep thought into what you do to excell and succeed. It is about training your mind by directing your full concentration/deep thoughts onto "something productive" that interests you and uplifts - rather than on negative thoughts or self criticism. Directing your thoughts to more positive ones will create in you the motivation to carry through with positive actions each day. It takes practise/consistency to change our outlook and thoughts around from pessimistic to positive but worth it in the long run making our life's more meaningful and fulfilling. It starts with the little steps outlined above.

Let us know how you get on. Talk here whenever you feel the need for support to become motivated

Hi @qwert_zxc

It's great that you're searching for answers! It shows you DO care about yourself 🙂

I wanted to let you know that there is a wonderful site called ReachOut.com who is for 14- 25 yrs. I'm guessing from what you have said, you fit that age bracket. They also have online forums , which you might find helpful!

All the best,

Nik
