Ongoing postnatal depression

Ongoing postnatal depression

My daughter is almost 2 years old and Im still struggling with postnatal depression. Owing to less understanding drs I chose to try and let my depression run its course thinking it would get better-but its worse than ever now. Does anyone have a similar experience?

@outlander my GP mentioned they may choose to use a combination of treatment e.g medication and therapy or maybe just one or the other. Will just be relieved Im finally seeking treatment for it.

I really hope an appointment comes up for you soon especially being a private client as well, usually those who have medical insurance etc are quicker to get into the system

Hi Hopeful30

We are sorry that you are going through a difficult time. We are glad that you have reached out and asked this question. Perinatal depression can certainly continue if untreated so we really encourage you to seek support. PANDA National Helpline can provide support to expecting and new mums up to 12 months post birth (ph 1300 726 306 Monday-Friday 9am-7:30pm AEST/AEDT). There are also other services such as Pregnancy Birth and Baby (ph 1800 882 436) and Parentline (ph 13 22 89) that also offer phone support.

Re: Ongoing postnatal depression

That's great you talked to your gp about it @Hopeful30. Lots of people don't get that far.

You may want to consider asking for a referral to a psychologist too. They're much easier to get into see and can really help with talking through things.

Hope you're doing OK today 🌻
