Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Edit: This has evolved to become a vent thread and supportive thread. Everyone is welcome to come, vent. say hello, and especially seek support with their intrusive thoughts.

--

I've been newly diagnosed with GAD, depression and OCD. I'm in my mid 30s and have been dealing with this stuff my entire adult life. The tipping point was severe post natal depression that I almost didn't survive. I'm getting help for me, but also because I don't want my kid to pick up my issues.

Often my intrusive thoughts are about world events, but at the moment they're suicidal. They push their way into everything i do/think and I'm so exhausted, just trying to ignore them. It's scary and I'm suffering insomnia. I'm currently off work for this week while I adjust to new meds, and my GP and psychologist are suggesting hospitalisation.

I've been trying mindfulness and exercise, as well as limiting alcohol (which I find hard).

So I guess I'm looking for suggestions and support. This mental health journey is so new for me and I feel very alone. I want to make it through this.

Thanks for reading, I really appreciate it. I just also want to state that I am currently safe and with family.

Thanks @outlander. It was a pretty nice Sunday, although I'm mentally spent now. I had some wine with dinner so I can't take my sleeping pills tonight. Here's hoping the darkness isn't too bleak tonight 🌜⭐

I watched a movie with my husband. I've been using an app to help do meditation to sleep, so will try that.

I hope you get a good sleep tonight. A new week tomorrow! ⭐🌻

Well this morning has been tough. The thoughts are back and they're quite different and upsetting. I hate my OCD brain. I have Mondays off work for a while, so I'm going to take myself to the movies to distract myself.

hi @Molliex going to the movies sounds like a good distraction. I hope those thoughts ease today and your day gets better

Thanks @outlander. Distraction is what I need. My mind is scary right now.

I know what you mean @Molliex .. same here. 💕

Hoping you can find worthwhile and enjoyable activities today to keep your thoughts at bay.

Ive been out giving some of my garden plants a much needed drink this morning. And topping up the water and feeding my fish in the garden pond. And giving my budgies in the aviary some yummy treats. They were particularly friendly today.

Re: Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Apparently today is World Suicide Prevention Day. Any awareness is good, but i find it so damn furstrating. It is such tokenism. You know what would actually help?? Funding mental health care, subsidsing the number of mental heath appointments required, not pucking a RANDOM NUMBER - 10, as the appointments that will be funded. Imagine telling a cancer patient that only 10 treatments would be funded, regardless of how serious there illness was.

Just feeling despondent, frustrated and triggred today. @Former-Member @outlander @MDT @Shaz51 @Bunniekins
