Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Edit: This has evolved to become a vent thread and supportive thread. Everyone is welcome to come, vent. say hello, and especially seek support with their intrusive thoughts.

--

I've been newly diagnosed with GAD, depression and OCD. I'm in my mid 30s and have been dealing with this stuff my entire adult life. The tipping point was severe post natal depression that I almost didn't survive. I'm getting help for me, but also because I don't want my kid to pick up my issues.

Often my intrusive thoughts are about world events, but at the moment they're suicidal. They push their way into everything i do/think and I'm so exhausted, just trying to ignore them. It's scary and I'm suffering insomnia. I'm currently off work for this week while I adjust to new meds, and my GP and psychologist are suggesting hospitalisation.

I've been trying mindfulness and exercise, as well as limiting alcohol (which I find hard).

So I guess I'm looking for suggestions and support. This mental health journey is so new for me and I feel very alone. I want to make it through this.

Thanks for reading, I really appreciate it. I just also want to state that I am currently safe and with family.

@Molliex , that's really good news, I hope you relate well with the psychiatrist.

I saw my Psychiatrist today, I was hoping for an increase in my antipsychotic but instead I got the results back from an ecg that were abnormal, my Psychiatrist is unwilling to change my meds until after an urgent cardiology review. I'm feeling a bit upset by it all to be honest. I'm overwhelmed.

Hang in there @Angels333 . Try not to think about it too much. I know its not easy. It's hard when things don't go the way we hope or expect. Its understandable that its upsetting on many levels.

Do you have something you can do take your mind off everything for a while?

Oh @Molliex, that is such good news. I am relieved for you, I really am. At least now you know that the process has started, that you dont have to flounder around on your own waiting for something to happen. So pleased. It must take a weight off your mind. Fingers crossed your appointment goes well, and that this psychiatrist is a 'good fit' and knows what he's doing.

@Angels333 ... that sounds pretty worrying, I hope you can get a cardiologist review soon. And hopefully that will give you some peace of mind. It could be nothing, and lets hope thats the case. Chin up!

oh @Angels333 that is rough. How long until you get a review??

At least your mood stabiliser is helping a bit. Hopefully that continues to help
