Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Edit: This has evolved to become a vent thread and supportive thread. Everyone is welcome to come, vent. say hello, and especially seek support with their intrusive thoughts.

--

I've been newly diagnosed with GAD, depression and OCD. I'm in my mid 30s and have been dealing with this stuff my entire adult life. The tipping point was severe post natal depression that I almost didn't survive. I'm getting help for me, but also because I don't want my kid to pick up my issues.

Often my intrusive thoughts are about world events, but at the moment they're suicidal. They push their way into everything i do/think and I'm so exhausted, just trying to ignore them. It's scary and I'm suffering insomnia. I'm currently off work for this week while I adjust to new meds, and my GP and psychologist are suggesting hospitalisation.

I've been trying mindfulness and exercise, as well as limiting alcohol (which I find hard).

So I guess I'm looking for suggestions and support. This mental health journey is so new for me and I feel very alone. I want to make it through this.

Thanks for reading, I really appreciate it. I just also want to state that I am currently safe and with family.

Hi @Former-Member and @Shaz51. Thanks for thinking of me. I just have nothing to give right now.

The hospital was ok, but it was traumatic having to talk about stuff again. Because I have to go to NZ next week, there's not much we can do now. Their crisis team is going to keep checking in on me.

I'm just exhausted and sad and overwhelmed. I have a throat infection and my daughter has a chest infection. I have to organise things for the trip home. I have a big legal matter to deal with a work tomorrow. I'm just so so tired. ❤️🌻

Thank you @Angels333. I feel so defeated right now. So hard to ignore my intrusive thoughts.

How are you? Just a few days until you see your pdoc.

Hey @Molliex yes today must have been a huge stressor.

I have been struggling with SH I'm hanging out to see my Psychiatrist this Thursday. I know he is due to increase one of my meds. Because my psychologist canceled my appointment last time that will make 5 weeks without seeing him.

I'm really anxious all the time. But I do feel my mood stabilizer is working somewhat on my depression.

Anyway sorry for the rant...

Love Angels333

That wasn't really a rant @Angels333, and anyway, you're welcome to rant anytime x. I know how hard it's been to wait for your appointment. It's so close, hang in there xxx 🌻❤️

Today was hard. I didn't sleep last night. Work was busy and I just felt so sad and tired all day. Because of having to go away next week, it seems I can't see a psychiatrist before November, even with the hospital help. So another month of ineffective meds awaits, and I wonder how I'll cope. I also can't see my psychologist for a month. It feels very daunting, especially with some really difficult stuff coming up.. I'm so deflated and hopeless.

Not tagging anyone tonight. Just treating this like a vent space 😑

Hey @Molliex I hear your concerns about waiting to see a Psychiatrist. I've been waiting only 2 weeks between appointments and I'm at my wits end. It's been 5 weeks between appointments for my psychologist.

Hang in there xx

I was also wondering how your grandmother is?

I'm hoping you get to see her.

Sending hugs your way xxx
