Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Edit: This has evolved to become a vent thread and supportive thread. Everyone is welcome to come, vent. say hello, and especially seek support with their intrusive thoughts.

--

I've been newly diagnosed with GAD, depression and OCD. I'm in my mid 30s and have been dealing with this stuff my entire adult life. The tipping point was severe post natal depression that I almost didn't survive. I'm getting help for me, but also because I don't want my kid to pick up my issues.

Often my intrusive thoughts are about world events, but at the moment they're suicidal. They push their way into everything i do/think and I'm so exhausted, just trying to ignore them. It's scary and I'm suffering insomnia. I'm currently off work for this week while I adjust to new meds, and my GP and psychologist are suggesting hospitalisation.

I've been trying mindfulness and exercise, as well as limiting alcohol (which I find hard).

So I guess I'm looking for suggestions and support. This mental health journey is so new for me and I feel very alone. I want to make it through this.

Thanks for reading, I really appreciate it. I just also want to state that I am currently safe and with family.

Hello @outlander. This time of night is hard. SI and SH thoughts at their strongest. Feeling triggered today by release of statics from 2018 showing how people died.

Night times the hardest for alot of people @Molliex so your not alone in that. Sorry youve been triggerred by that. Is there something you can do that is distracting like a cross word puzzle to keep your thoughts focussed on the activity rather then what youve read?

I'm watching an interesting documentary, which is good. But I'm drinking alcohol, which is bad.

How are you feeling about everything @outlander? You've got so much to process. I'm in awe of your strength.

I was watching a doco about competive eating @outlander such an interesting choice of hobby/sport (?).

I work full-time so I don't get a huge amount of time during the week for stuff like gardening. Last night we watered her flowers together with her favourite soft toy. It was cute.

I hope the drive goes ok. Music sounds like a good idea. 💕🌻

Hi @MDT. How are you doing at the end of week 3 of work?? I'm feeling shaky tonight. Haven't found a psychiatrist yet. I'm the boss tomorrow, but I just want to go away.
