Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Edit: This has evolved to become a vent thread and supportive thread. Everyone is welcome to come, vent. say hello, and especially seek support with their intrusive thoughts.

--

I've been newly diagnosed with GAD, depression and OCD. I'm in my mid 30s and have been dealing with this stuff my entire adult life. The tipping point was severe post natal depression that I almost didn't survive. I'm getting help for me, but also because I don't want my kid to pick up my issues.

Often my intrusive thoughts are about world events, but at the moment they're suicidal. They push their way into everything i do/think and I'm so exhausted, just trying to ignore them. It's scary and I'm suffering insomnia. I'm currently off work for this week while I adjust to new meds, and my GP and psychologist are suggesting hospitalisation.

I've been trying mindfulness and exercise, as well as limiting alcohol (which I find hard).

So I guess I'm looking for suggestions and support. This mental health journey is so new for me and I feel very alone. I want to make it through this.

Thanks for reading, I really appreciate it. I just also want to state that I am currently safe and with family.

Re: Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

The day was ok @outlander but it ended pretty crap. My boss and I have a great working relationship and I've told her about my illness and she's been nothing but supportive. She's had to tell our big boss about the reason for my temporary reduction in hours. I told her she could say mental health, but no more. Now he's demanding to know the information, what the cause is, what's the issue?" and he wants to have a meeting to make sure "I'm supported".

Argh I'm so annoyed. He's such an asshole and I'm not telling him shit. Think I'm gojng to just quote him some legislation and tell him to f off.

Arrrrgggggghhhhhhh 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬Dreading tomorrow

@outlander I refuse to discuss it with him and he can't ask. I'll talk to my boss and get her to pass on my message.

I hope that works out well for you @Molliex
I haven't really had to deal with bosses or having these sorts of conversations so im not to much of help im afraid.
I at least hope he accepts that you don't want to talk about it

I've never had this experience either. But I don't trust this person and I don't want to tell him anything. Legally he's not entitled to know.

Hope you're doing well @outlander x

Re: Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Today was the worst day I've had in a really long time. I found out that my privacy was breached and details of my MI were disclosed to my associate director. I have had to lodge a complaint with HR and am under immense stress. This person is a bully and has used MH to bad mouth and put down staff. I'm afraid, I hate making a fuss and I hate people knowing. My supervisor is supportive and lodged the complaint with me. She is being bullied to disclose information, because he's so worried it's all about him.

Then I had a terrible appointment with my psychologist. I dunno we were both off. I didn't really open up and he didn't seem to have a strong plan for the appointment. I feel guilty about wasting both of our time and not explaining how bad I felt. I actually asked to leave our appointment early, I just felt shit.

I see my GP Monday. My psych and gp want me to see a psychiatrist. I'm feeling really really low. So depressed, anxious. Awful about myself. I lied to my psych about how bad it was because I didn't want him to call anyone. He was really worried about my safety. Argh..

Hi @Molliex 👋 💕

I am on and off the forums tonight with homework commitments, but wanted to let you know that I hear you ..... really sucky day .....

Do you have any self-care activity you can invest in tonight ? Sometimes it’s a simple as applying hand cream and cuddling up to a heat-pack ..... so music maybe ?

I will be around if you need to vent some more .....

Wafting some gently hugs your way, and glad you’re spitting it out !

@Molliex hey sounds you had a big day. Hope you have something Nice to eat. How about some nice soothing things for tonight. May be bath, or music. I normally just quietly being alone resting. Read a bit and let it all fade away.Work can be hard.edp with MI. I had bullied before. I found just stick to protecting myself from them and set up boundaries . I do feel fragile once I am alone with the thoughts of them. But it works after sometime. Hope you can relax tonight.
