There is a thread operating on the Lived Experience Forum under Night Shift where members who are having trouble sleeping for any reason give a bit of a shout-out, to see if there is anyone else sleepless and looking for company. It's been such a great thing, I thought I would start one over here too.
I have had the odd few nights where I have woken up on and off, and my kids have been having a bit of trouble some nights too, depending on what has happened during the day.
Being a carer can be lonely too, so if you are making an after-midnight cup of something hot, and wonder who else might be doing that too, maybe have a look-in here and see if anyone else is about.
Good morning @Faith-and-Hope@Adge@Former-Member@Determined@Former-Member@@@@@@@everyone else
Really missed my early morning walk with the pooch yesterday because of the rain. It's cool and sunny here so we hit the path again. Then went to get some salmon and pasta and veges for dinner tonight. Washing is done. Sitting back reading the forums before I tackle some housework.
Coco Pops - that brings me back to my childhood when maybe a couple of times a year, my mother used to buy those packs of Kellogg's assorted mini boxes of cereal. We'd argue over who got the Coco Pops or Fruit Loops.
Back in those days, junk food was something you only had at parties.
Even with my own kids, I would limit their intake. Friday night would be softdrink night where they would share a can (whilst I had a scotch 😆). These days they are very health conscious - only indulging occasionally.
I am amazed each week at the ever increasing array of "treat" foods in the supermarket catalogues. It's sad when a chocolate bar costs less than a couple of pieces of fruit (bananas were $3.80 a kg - take away the peel and look at the real cost)

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?
I tried to keep junk food as party food only in my house @soul ..... but I married the wrong fella for that .....
My kids reach for junk food with emotional eating, and while I do too at times, I keep it very limited. I prefer to buy "expensive" fruit like cherries, but they are not actually expensive when conpared to the junk food you might buy otherwise.

Good morning @soul@Adge We only got sugary cereal in school holidays and then it was limited. I was thinking of a dog thread @Faith-and-Hope as I am allergic to cats. On mobile phone only at present so can't post pics.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?
I have been posting dogs on Something Worth a Smile on C-Forum @Former-Member@soul ..... but I started a C-Forum cats thread the other day (or was it yesterday .... 🤔 ... lol) called For The Love of CATS ❣️
There are many carers who don't venture to the LE-Forum, so I am happy to have duplicate threads here, but they really need to have a different name or it becomes confusing which forum you're on .....

Lol @Faith-and-Hope
My darling and I have very different ideas around the difference between treat and necessity when it comes to food.
GP was giving me the lecture around refined foods and sweets when I had S2 in during the week. LoL, I told her she was preaching to the converted and maybe should tell the mother when she comes in next week.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?
Can relate @Determined .... that's all part of our mess .....
WH was raised under punishing perfectionism rewarded with excess .... food particularly .... but expensive anything and everything against the extreme of a low socio-economic area and cramped living space. Materialism looms big on our landscape. I have tried to balance it out in the kids through youth group and church involvement, and mixing with families who have finiancial struggles.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?
My darling is not over the top at all @Faith-and-Hope, it is more that I didnt have a lot of things growing up and see some things as treats that she see's as part of routine.
The children got used to not having all the extra tidbits in their lunch boxes while darling was away so they dont really need it . Currently a work in progress 😊

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?
Yeah @Detetmined .... balance is needed or it all becomes "forbidden fruit".
When I realised that I was being invalidated by a while extended family, I educated the kids instead ..... told them that only the most toxic foods, like artificial fats, are a danger .... everything else is available.
Not everything else has good food value tho. Not everything else will keep you healthy and provide vitality. High nutrition foods are yummy too, and they smell good ..... showed the kids how to spend the same amount of money as junk food on expensive, delicious fruits .... and added amazing salads to junk food lunches and dinners, and beautiful breads ..... made cakes chunky, fruity and filling, so the fluffy creamy ones are actually too saccharine-sweet and less appetising now .....
It's do-able. The kids have lost balance with all the emotional turmoil in the household and WH's well-stocked junk food cupboard readily available to them 24/7 ...., but they are adults now ...,, their personal choice to make ..... cos the fridge and pantry cupboards are stocked with nuts, popcorn, dips, salsa, pasta, wholemeal biscuits, cheeses, fruit, carrot sticks, cucumber, cherry tomatoes etc ...,,
