Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi All

There is a thread operating on the Lived Experience Forum under Night Shift where members who are having trouble sleeping for any reason give a bit of a shout-out, to see if there is anyone else sleepless and looking for company. It's been such a great thing, I thought I would start one over here too.

I have had the odd few nights where I have woken up on and off, and my kids have been having a bit of trouble some nights too, depending on what has happened during the day.

Being a carer can be lonely too, so if you are making an after-midnight cup of something hot, and wonder who else might be doing that too, maybe have a look-in here and see if anyone else is about.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

I have found the same @soul ....

Many carers are so run off their feet they will often find the forums, vent, find support and advice in the moment, then they are off again .... returning for a top-up when they need to, whereas the LE side is more consistently present, and many of us as carers spend a lot of our time amongst forum friends on LE-Forum.

This virtual cafe is a good bpgrounding thread for the carers I think .... one where, hopefully across time, more carers will feel free to just pop in and say a passing hello to let us know they are still connected.

We were about to send out the search and rescue team @Determined, complete with sniffer dogs.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

@Faith-and-HopeI registered & login through Ruah mental health. So their info always appears on every page.

Now that you mention it, there is the title of the forum at the top of the page - it's just that I hadn't been looking at (or seeing) it...

I care for lots of pets (& myself) in my own time, which often I don't have enough energy for (to appreciate my birds & cats).

I work as a carer, & find that far too draining & stressful - I've been doing that for 10 years or so, & am actually finding it much harder (instead of easier).

It's got something to do with how much face-to-face personal support (& supportive networks) a carer has, to refresh & recharge their energy etc.

I don't have any, & I live alone - so that leaves me with less & less energy left to give.

@soulI love the idea of that search & rescue team that you mentioned, complete with sniffer dogs (those Beagles are gorgeous).

Although I hope we really don't have to call for the search & rescue team...

Perth Airport used to have Beagle sniffer dogs, sniffing your bags when you got off the plane. They were so cute.

Although you would have been in big trouble if they did find something - because they were sniffing for drugs, & illegal agricultural (food) imports...

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

@Adge is there a way of moving sideways in your area of employment ? I don't know if Phams or something similar exists here in WA, but maybe that would be better for you ..... assisting people in more specific life skills.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

@Faith-and-Hope Phams I haven't heard of that.
Thanks, maybe I can look that up.

I do have a passion for people (with a BA in Soc Sc & Ed studies). However I'm very introverted, so working with people constantly is very draining.

My greatest passion has always been plants & environment (Grad Dip in Sc Environmental Management).

Sadly I only went back into disability work because I was seriously assaulted at work (Gardening & horticulture) - & I had to get out of there.

I lost the work that I loved because of someone elses aggressive actions.

I have not been able to get another horticultural (gardening) job since then - in 6 years, with several disability positions.

Mind you, I did have several medical emergencies & emergency surgeries in the meantime. Almost died twice in hospital (they told me).

So my health & stamina is not what it was 2 years ago.

Skills Trainer (another term for Carer) is actually my current job title - what I'm doing at the moment.

I'm sorry to hear you have been through such a hard time @Adge. I hope things start looking up from here.
