Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi All

There is a thread operating on the Lived Experience Forum under Night Shift where members who are having trouble sleeping for any reason give a bit of a shout-out, to see if there is anyone else sleepless and looking for company. It's been such a great thing, I thought I would start one over here too.

I have had the odd few nights where I have woken up on and off, and my kids have been having a bit of trouble some nights too, depending on what has happened during the day.

Being a carer can be lonely too, so if you are making an after-midnight cup of something hot, and wonder who else might be doing that too, maybe have a look-in here and see if anyone else is about.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

I am alright @Shaz51. Overwhelmed with work and personal (romantic) life I have to say. @outlander is aware of what is happening with that personal life aspect of it and she has been great. I have not been sleeping too well and have woken around 4/5am the past week. Really frustrating. Past few days have had anxious/panic feelings as well. Kinda also queried with outlander last night if caring too much is a bad thing or bad trait to have.

On a separate note, have signed up to a Standard mental health first aid course for the 10th & 17th June. 12 hour course so kinda excited about that!

im glad to be helping @Anony18 though im not sure im helping that much

and no @Anony18 caring too much isnt a bad thing- you just have to know when the best time to step in and step out is. your not the first or the last person to learn or realise that just as ive had to

wow thats fantastic- well done on that- whats the difference between dtadard first aird and mental health first aid might i ask?

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

You are helping @outlander - just by listening as it has been hard to voice what is running through my head. Even as I tell the couple friends here they start asking more questions. Which I know it is to help me think about it more but the questions makes me more anxious and panic more.

Think that is the issue I care too much but not sure how much is too much -_-

Well normal first aid is your CPR etc. But the mental health first aid is meant to help in terms of identifying when signs people are going through that but maybe not admitting it and also how to help. @Determined might have a better idea on what it entails as I remember him saying he has done it. I see that they have other types of mental health first aid courses, ones tailored to professional environment and one for youth mental health. I thought I do the standard one due to the suggestion of Determined and how he said it helped alot. It is going to be interesting and am looking forward to it.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

sometimes @Anony18 you jsut need to vent and to be heard

if i can offer advice i will but i will always 'listen' and let you be heard whatever it may be

its a good quality to have- to care- though i do get how much is too much- often when your on here sometimes you can work out what level of support people are comfortable with

e.g some people the more the merrier, some just only want one or two people they are closest 2 , so everyones different

if you cant answer a question straight away that someone is asking you, dont reply straight away or if your unsure then say that. not everyone has the answers all the time its ok to say 'i dont know how i feel about such and such'

yeah im trained in normal first aid just wasnt sure what mental health first aid was so maybe @Determined can shed abit of light on it. it does sound very interestng though and im super glad your looking forward to doing it.. if you dont mind me asking what job are you currently in?

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Thanks for the advice @outlander - I guess that is where am learning the right balance of caring. But I find in real life people tend open up to me about their problems which is good but sometimes it is also hard when you are having a tough day but you can't really say "not in mood". It feels wrong and standoffish. But I have used the words I don't have the words to say but I am here listen and hug you.

I am an audit manager and my new role is a financial accountant. I don't need to do this course at all but since a mate told me about it I found it interesting given it's meant help with how to support people with MI??? @Determined can shed done light. Think was @Former-Member that also did it??? But may be wrong....
