Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi All

There is a thread operating on the Lived Experience Forum under Night Shift where members who are having trouble sleeping for any reason give a bit of a shout-out, to see if there is anyone else sleepless and looking for company. It's been such a great thing, I thought I would start one over here too.

I have had the odd few nights where I have woken up on and off, and my kids have been having a bit of trouble some nights too, depending on what has happened during the day.

Being a carer can be lonely too, so if you are making an after-midnight cup of something hot, and wonder who else might be doing that too, maybe have a look-in here and see if anyone else is about.

That's awesome @Faith-and-Hope - how long does a sitter... have to... sit when you're painting their portrait?

@Shaz51 - I am so jealous of your weather... it's 12 degrees and freeeeeezing here!

That is exceptional news @Shaz51
Do you think he'll get out and do a bit of a photography expedition / adventure?

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

I hope so @NikNik xx

I got a surprise tonight , my hubby brought me a camera

I think the cutting back on the workload and me saying No to things

reminding him that he needs timeout , it has been soo hard, I have had to be strong at times , I have wanted to give up so many times

and Today i said to him that I need timeout too

But one day at a time

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

@Shaz51 - I'm confused... is the camera a good surprise or a bad one?

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

I understand @Shaz51
A thoughtful intention - but a bit stressful when there's less income.

Hi @NikNik 😊

I don't have a simple answer to that one ....

In this case I used a combination of things to capture this person's image. I know them, and have known them for a long time, but not on a personal level. Apart from an initial sitting, where I studied them a bit, and took photos, did initial sketches, etc, I also viewed video of them, and referenced other people's photos, including photographic portraits of the person. I built up a composite knowledge of the sitters facial expressions, and general appearance, and painted their portrait from that combined experience ....

Other times I have worked from photos, but not usually a single photo. I develop a composite impression of them from several photos, and try to create and expression on their face that is a familiar one.

That is generally what I do in search of a likeness, because my work is very detailed. I haven't tried to capture someone' s likeness in the context of a single sitting yet, other than artists models, but they were whole body images, not only the face.
