Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi All

There is a thread operating on the Lived Experience Forum under Night Shift where members who are having trouble sleeping for any reason give a bit of a shout-out, to see if there is anyone else sleepless and looking for company. It's been such a great thing, I thought I would start one over here too.

I have had the odd few nights where I have woken up on and off, and my kids have been having a bit of trouble some nights too, depending on what has happened during the day.

Being a carer can be lonely too, so if you are making an after-midnight cup of something hot, and wonder who else might be doing that too, maybe have a look-in here and see if anyone else is about.

Good thanks, Shaz51. Reading through changes to the MH Act here in Qld. Bit worried as to what this means for the future if I ever need to organise involuntary admissions in the future...the system is difficult enough to navigate as it is when a family member is unwell. And I just LOVE how people and agencies give friendly advice like getting an aggressive and abusive person suffering from schizoaffective disorder to voluntarily seek treatment. Amazing.

My husband did this last year , he had a breakdown and went to the hospital himself --- involuntary admissions --- if you go yourself , you have to stay in hospital till the team is happy that there is someone to look after you

I know , and as a wife and carer , you have to go to family meetings with the team

Great Shaz that your husband sought help for himself. Unfortunately my mother has had her illness for more than 30 years, and she has never gone to hospital or sought treatment voluntarily. In actual fact when she is unwell she is usually manic, delusional, verbally abusive, and even on occasion physically violent. To this day she has no insight into her illness -- she says she does not have one. To suggest that she seeks help or that you have concerns about how she is doing when she is not right only invites threats...so I have learnt not to waste my time and go there.

@Shaz51 - I know the massive waterworks are coming. I can feel it from the anxious feeling in my chest. Just when I think it's about to come it doesn't.

@Faith-and-Hope - still feeling the same unfortunately. Wish had a crystal ball to see into the future right now. Or rather into my partner's head! But if I did I guess wouldn't experience this and learn so much and I guess grow as well. Just trying to keep telling myself we be fine and be patient. It's the long weekend soon and people are asking what my plans. The reality is that I can't make them cause right now I think I need take it day by day. Spend tonight to think what to do tomorrow and so on and so forth. Unsure if it's right thing to do. Went to my office just then to drop some documents. Grabbed a couple red date and longan tea sachets. Suppose help the stress and energy levels. Fingers cross!!!
