We lived for 6 months in Arnhem land, in the 1970's.--- did you @Adge , wow

I bet it was wild in those days @Adge . I was also there in 1974 (including for cyclone Tracy), 1976-78 and then called it home for 16 years from 2001. Because I was there in my teens and had such wonderful adventures, I took my teen child back there to do high school. And we had some adventures then too. Mostly through horse riding and archery but if I say any more it will be identifiable.

@Adge we were in PNG for nearly 5 years before going to Darwin so it seemed quite tame by comparison!

It was for an archeological Dig @Shaz51 @eth

Dad was a geologist & science teacher - he was helping with the Dig.

They were digging up an aboriginal midden, to identify remains of what the people ate (shells & things).

Dad wanted to get his pHd through that excursion.

Then he had a falling out with the man running it - autocratic with not enough food supplies etc.

So we left, & Dad had nothing to show for (or reward) his efforts.

He was unpaid labour.

We saw wild Boar, Buffalos, crocodiles - & someone stepped on a catfish (nasty injury).

Plus someone found a big Scorpion in their boot, just before they put the boot on....

Sogheri in PNG north of Port Moresby - went there many times.
