Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

Well hello to anyone who's discovered this new thread .... and welcome!!!

For some time I've noticed things are a bit quiet on a Saturday, especially in the evening. So this will be a social gathering for all forumites and hopefully a place to relax and meet friends. It's also a place where you can talk about whatever's going on for you at the moment, safely, and find support.

If you want to bring something to eat or drink that would be welcome, whatever makes you happy.

Actually that may be a good place to start - jump in anywhere and let us know one thing that makes you happy - currently or over time.

Really looking forward to finding a posse to hang with on a Saturday.

L E T ' S P A R T Y !!!

I'm sure there are many I've missed.

And of course the beverage of your choice.

EDIT : Do feel free to contribute some music too. Of any style. The more the merrier ...

Welcome!!!

Re: Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

Hi there @WIP ,

I can hear you are feeling really weighted down at the moment and that it’s really tough to surge forward right now. It can be really hard to continue to cultivate the need to stay safe and out of harm, and so we want you to know you’re not alone and that we are here in the space with you. Just checking too if you would be open to getting in touch with Lifeline or SCBS to speak with someone if necessary? It’s important you are able to stay safe and well, if you require urgent assistance please do reach out to someone.

Much care and gratitude,

Otter

Hey @MDT. I reckon it's good to become comfortable with your own company. Achieving a balance with alone time and connecting with others is the key 👍🏻🙂

Re: Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

Hi @WIP I'm really sorry to hear life is so difficult for you at the moment. Hoping today is a better one for you. I spent many years completely isolated and without support so I know what that can be like. Good on you for reaching out here. I hope you found something helpful in @Otter 's advice. Sometimes it comes down to getting through 10 minutes at a time, not even an hour or a day, I get that. Are there any activities you can do that help you pass the time? For me that could be cooking, adult colouring books (I like doing mandalas, there are lots of online free ones), reading, writing, getting into the garden, or even just sitting outside in the sunshine for a bit. You are not alone in struggling even to have a shower - there are plenty of us here that share that challenge. Wet wipes are helpful.

Do you have any supports in your off-line life? I have a GP, psychologist and psychiatrist that help keep me going. If you do, it might be time to let one of them know how you are feeling.

I hope the med works out for you. I went through several years of trial and error to get to the balance of meds I'm on now. I have bipolar 1 and complex PTSD and have been relatively stable the last couple of years for the first time in my life (I'm 57) thanks in part to good meds. And I know how hard it can be to get through the adjustment period with a new one. But it was definitely worth persevering.

Hang in there. You will find good support here. Take care.

Re: Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

@BPDSurvivor hope you staying warm down there. Miss BPD slowly coming back with the meds starting to work. Trick now is to keep her taking them. You will be proud of me for not nagging! Ordered a couple of books on BPD to try and educate myself!

Re: Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

Hey Mum @Nells !

It's so good to hear there is a somewhat improvement in MissBPD. And what's even better? You didn't have to nag her to take her meds!

I've read a few BPD books - Stop walking on Eggshells, Buddha and the borderline, I hate you don't leave me. They will give you some insight into BPD. Another good read is The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris. Harris sheds light on the idea that 'we always have to be happy' is a trap and brings on disappointment. He goes through skills to practise and develop. Harris has developed some light animated YouTube clips to help understand our evolutionary brain. Take a look: https://youtu.be/93LFNtcR1Ok

There are some pretty informative clips he has developed.

Anyway, cheers for the development Mum @Nells !
