Why suicidal thoughts when stressed

Why suicidal thoughts when stressed

When we're stressed or overwhelmed - Its the worst time to have to also deal with intrusive suicidal thoughts.

Why does it come?

I fight so hard to not GO THERE again, and here it is, in my face, at the worst of times.

I'm moving house again and sooo tired 😞

"Just ignore it" some announce, as if it's easy as that (note to self... never disclose to them again).

Some deeper thinkers say its just an automatic 'default' / symptom of mental illness / underlying ''depression"

All and any constructive comments are welcome 💡

Re: Why suicidal thoughts when stressed

Hi @Former-Member. Mothers day would be very hard when you have experienced what you have 🙁 'Special' days are almost inescapable in a world that is flooded with messages to buy and spend for those days. A very painful anniversary of mine falls around a 'special' day here and the lead up to it is so much worse because of the triggers that are around. It's tough.

All the physical work you're doing, on top of the mental and emotional fight you're having, with the challenges that come with low iron sound like a very difficult combination. No wonder you're stressed and feeling overwhelmed.

It's hard for me to identify exactly how long I have fought SI but I remember it was around 10 years ago when I noticed it was becoming a problem for me and a few years after that when I first had CATT intervention because I became a danger to myself. Over the last couple of years it has been a daily fight at times but for 6+ ish months I've been doing much better. It slowly became no longer a daily or weekly fight, and is now not even a monthly fight.

While I am very much enjoying the absence of such dark and scary times, like you mentioned I still live with the fear that it can't last and it will come back. I'm scared of being in that place again and it can impact my ability to enjoy the good times. I'm trying to trust myself that I have shown myself time and time again that I can make it through, but trust in general is not easy either!

Best wishes with whatever it is you're doing today. I hope there is some peace in your day ❤

Hi @CheerBear, thought I replied to this your post... might have fallen asleep & lost it... that happens with me a lot sorry💐

You write so well..

Sound like you've recovered well from SI & being a harm to yourself... And I so understand that underlying fear of slipping back.

Ihave relatives that shove it in my face every opportunity. People don't help when they do this. We fight so hard to pull ourselves up, but to be told it doesn't matter. Once a mental health patient always a MHP... I hate them & only recrntly learned I met move on.

My Suicidals thoughts are very quiet atm... (thank perhapsgodness). To think only a fortnight ago I had gathered the means in a little stash but now it's not.

Perhaps because my circumstances have changed, having found my own place to live, away from constant negative influences, and maybe because I'm rested (spent last 3 days mostly in bed), and having fun in my new residence setting up house again, clucking, op shop spending... definately a distraction and a feeling of HOPE which I think is some kind of antidote for SI / depression.
