A conversation with Sarah Wilson // Wed. 11 May // 7pm AEST

This Wednesday author and presenter Sarah Wilson will be joining us for a conversation about anxiety. For Sarah’s next big project, she is delving into the deep and philosophical questions by exploring her own and others’ journey through anxiety.

We will be tackling questions like -

Is our aim to be happy?

Does uncertainty affect anxiety?

What does your anxiety look like and feel like?

So grab a virtual cup of tea and join us from 7pm – 9pm AEST to hear more about Sarah’s story, share your own insights and contribute to Sarah’s upcoming project.

Re: Advice and comfort from others…

@Former-Member, @Sarah108

My husband first marriage , she told him-- oh just get over it

He hated that because he knew he could not get over it

so me ( second wife ) won`t say things like that

Re: Depression and anxiety

@Sarah108, and I definitely agree with depression being related to acute anxiety. I have experienced both (with bipolar). I also agree with someone else who posted that sometimes anxiety can kick me out of depression. But then it's like a yoyo experience and I have trouble finding peace in the middle. This may be more related to my bipolar though and my difficulty achieving moderation in things.

Re: anxiety

Hi @eth, you've just caught us at the end of the discussion but you'll be able to add more thoughts if you have time to wander back through Sarah's questions. We'd love to get your perspective.

The anxiety of not knowing if you have anxiety!

thank you EVERYONE this is my last thought...it relates to the depression v anxiety issue...

Depression has a stigma in society. It’s bad to be down. And so we fight our depression and we might take medication to get over it.

But with anxiety, the outside world would like to see us continue with our anxious behavior. That's how I feel. Being frantic and fretty and having insomnia is associated with success.

So...We don’t want to see our anxiety as an issue because, frankly, it keeps us going . Do you feel this?

Does this , then, make you wonder if you have a "problem" . Do you find yourself thinking, am I really anxious? Shouldn’t i just be like this...and I'm just not trying hard enough to get on top of modern life?

Do you feel self-conscious saying you 'have anxiety"?

Re: Depression and anxiety

I hate being told 'don't worry' when I am anxious. It's really invalidating.

I also often crash down for a while after an anxiety attack but I think that is also partly due to endorphins (a good thing if it helps you relax).

Too much chronic anxiety can be a trigger for me into bipolar hypomania.

Re: The anxiety of not knowing if you have anxiety!

Thank you @Sarah108 for joining us tonight. I think this discussion has quite a lot of life left so I'll be checking back in and inviting other members to participate over the next day or so.

We look forward to hearing more about your project as it unfolds.

Thank you everyone for your time and reponses tonight. We learn so much from eachother and, at the very least, feel so much less alone.

Have a good evening everyone

@Sarah108 I feel that part of trying to manage anxiety is about managing a perceived threat, and you become very good at seeing all possible angles and issues that could crop up ... So project management is a good career as that's what you do all day ... You are always trying to plan for the worst outcome
