Exhaustion

Exhaustion

Can someone pls tell me - can having a mental illness cause exhaustion. I am so exhausted from the morning when I wake up to early evening. Can't stop yawning. My iron is low but i have had an iron infusion and my levels have gone up. So I was wondering does depression, anxiety cause tiredness. I don't sleep too well because of my high anxiety and worrying.

Re: Exhaustion

Hi @BlueBay depression can definitely cause tiredness and wanting to sleep all the time. And anxiety for a long time can cause adrenal burn-out. Both are important to talk to your doctor about.

Thank you @eth

I was thinking of calling my psych tomorrow to see if I can see him or even talk to him. I will let him know. My anxiety has got a whole lot worse over the past few weeks.

Hi @BlueBay

sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Exhaustion is part of my illness too. I had to work reduced hours for a while, just because I could not make it through the day and I was always tired. I am a little better now, but still tired.

Call your psych or GP and make some changes. You might just need a bit more rest at the moment.

Thanks @Former-Member for your support.

Exhaustion can take it's toll on our health. I don't know how to get past the exhaustion. I want to have more energy; be able to get up and go and do things; - but I'm too tired.

I don't know how others get through when feeling so exhausted.

I am going away with hubby for our anniversary in 2 weeks time for five days so that will be nice break. But there is lots to think about that i need to talk to him about while away.

Maybe it's my mind racing at 100 miles an hour trying to do so much in my head.

I just hope my mind slows down a bit and I can get some rest.

I can't take time off work at the moment; I guess the only way is if my psych puts me back into hospital. he does know of my exhaustion and has prescribed a med for sleeping. But that's another medication that i really didn't need but when faced with so much tiredness i guess i need to take something.

@BlueBay

I take medication at night time as well - I think it's an antidepressant with some kind of sleeping aid? I stopped looking at my meds. If they help me get through the day at the moment, so be it. My sleep has improved which is great.

I know the feeling of a million thoughts racing through your head and I I did read you wanted to talk to your husband. Have you thought about just going to relax and enjoy yourself in them 5 days instead of torturing yourself trying to figure out how to talk to him? What were your plans for your anniversary trip? Did you plan activities that the two of you enjoy?

A few months ago my psych told me not to make any radical decisions while I am feeling so low and just to float and I am glad she told me that. There is a time and place to address my mental health - which is right now - and there will be a time and place for everything else. It is okay to just float for a while.

Re: Exhaustion

Hi @BlueBay can you ask your GP for a certificate for work and just have some time at home? Sounds like it's time to get the prescription for the sleeping med filled, even if you just use it occasionally. That's what I do. I don't know if you have bipolar or some other MI but I have bipolar and I have to be careful that I don't miss too much sleep because it can trigger me to get really racing thoughts and even mania. Time to step up the self care by the sounds of things and use every resource you can. Hope you have a peaceful day.

Re: Exhaustion

Hi @Former-Member and @eth

I can't take my sleeping tablet during the week because I am scared that it will have an effect on me to then go to work the next day. So I will start taking one on Friday night as I don't work on the weekend. If only I could have a really good sleep i am sure it will help.

Last night was terrible, i had a throbbing pulsating headache all night. Finally i got up at 5am and took some tablets; checked my blood pressure and that was extremely high. I tried to get back to sleep but all i could think of was work and what i had to do today. Crazy I know!! I finally got to sleep for another 1hr and then had to get up for work.

Yes, self care is something i don't do enough of. I need to start putting myself before everyone else - but that is hard too because then i feel selfish.

Re: Exhaustion

Hi @BlueBay 1 more night and then hopefully you can get some relief tomorrow night. Hope the headache is gone and you have a better night tonight too.

Looking after yourself is not selfish IMO, it gives you more capacity to be there for others at the right times. Sometimes it's just essential for a while and those you love who love you should understand and accept.

Re: Exhaustion

Exhaustion has hit me again. Work has been so stressful and crazy. Our store is being audited tomorrow and we had to change the whole store around according to the way the brand of our store wants it. It has taken at least 4 weeks to do. Today I am crashing. I am so anxious about tomorrow and stressing that she will not give us good enough points.

I hope I can sleep tonight.
