Exo's Exposé

Exo's Exposé

Looking for somewhere to hide in the Forum, no offense to anyone, I'm just kinda used to my own space - it feels safer to me. I often feel like I'm 'butting in' on other threads, I want to say something but it isn't 'in-line' with the current flow of conversation.

It rained here yesterday, dogs & cats weren't falling from the sky, but the grounds wet, there's puddles in my driveway & it's soooooooo sooooooo much cooler 😄 Guru Google even promises more!! After this weird wet stuff stopped dropping from above, I took the dogs for their walk, I do this almost every afternoon, but after a storm with close lightning strikes, my main purpose is to check the fence is still upright everywhere. I'm happy to announce it was all in tip-top shape 🙂 I noticed new puddle spots all the way around, I was sad that some trees had to be pushed over for the fence line, but the dip of their absence looks quite beautiful with a drop of moisture shimmering within. When I had completed the usual circuit I by-passed returning into the house-yard & wandered through to the dam. I think I may have been a little rain-drunk, I was hoping to see water in it, there wasn't any. I even went & stood in the very center of it's base, I think I was expecting to sink in mud - I didn't; but the cracks are gone . . . & they were huge. So if the Guru comes through with it's promise, there may yet be a puddle for my Staffy to play in 😉

I've decided to leave my camping trip to the beach for another week, rain wouldn't stop me - it rarely rains 24 hrs a day, but storms have - they often have devastingly strong winds that can break off & pick up reasonably heavy objects, that become dangerous ammunition. I've been emailing with the owners of this place, I'll still be in the off-peak season if I leave it another week - though I worry being so close to the Easter holiday, there's a more likely chance of more people. I keep telling myself I've just got to 'get over' that, that that would be all part of the experience - but I know I'm lying to myself. I picked this spot mainly because of the dog-friendly off-lead beach, but also because on the satelite view of Google maps I could see that there's no towns around it. It's one of the most isolated camping parks I've seen {that's within 5 hours of home, well - maybe just a little more}. It also admits it has old amenities, I saw negitive feedback about the place for those reasons - I think if you want to go to a resort . . . that's where you go - not to a place that describes itself as a rustic, old fashioned bush camping park 😉

Hello @Exoplanet

I wanted to reply to your post over here as well.

You have every right to feel so strongly about having your needs and wishes heard...

I will be very surprised if the specialist or surgeon does not remove both breasts given the diagnosis ...especially with your decision to go ahead

Do you think that your sister or daughter might be able to look into someone housesitting your dogs whilst you are away.

You will need some assistance once you leave hospital. They might even suggest a rehabilitation hospital if noone can be with you.

I know that your sister has offered.

It can be so very very hard to accept that we cannot do everything for ourselves when we are so independent. I know this feeling only too well.

Sometimes we do need to heed our own words that we advise others.

There are times where we simply have to get the medical world to listen if they are not.

They generally check to see if you have support when you go home after surgery.

How do you feel about your sister following up with the cancer council on your behalf to find out exactly what support, physically and financially is available for you?

You are still the same strong person, it is not a sign of weakness to ask for help...in cases like this if is a sign of great strength..

take care special @Exoplanet

love Sophia .💜

Re: Exo's Exposé

The Doctor has agreed with me about the bilateral mastectomy & node removal, I didn't have to say much at all, just that that is what I had decided & then list out my family history & state that I believed that gave me a higher percentage chance of developing cancer in the other breast. I think he was pleased as he will look into the nodes on the other side during the operation. He was more trying to convince me to undertake chemotherapy, though he knew I had already, from the very first word of cancer, said I was not interested. I have to go & see another Doctor & hear the information about it, though even on the referral he has written that I am likely to decline. He was advising chemo before & after surgery - . . . . no & no! So I'm waiting for phone calls, though I think my Sister might be going to receive them, my head started to blur quite a bit when we {my Sister came in to the appointments with me this time} went into the breast nurses office & she started talking to us. I started losing concentration on what was being said & the likes. I didn't think it was too noticeable, but the nurse said she could tell by my eyes somehow, that, I think she put it as I was getting tired. {my appointment did run 1 1/2 hours late, a couple of Doctors were on holiday & 1 got called back to the operating theatre, so we were there from 1.30 pm - 5.30pm} I think she arranged for my Sister to be the one that was contacted. I knew my head would go into super-blur, I know it's still not there yet, I haven't got a date for surgery yet. I have to see the chemo Doctor & I think the anaesthetic Doctor too, but I don't think it's far off now. The nurse asked how I was feeling about it all, I told her I was healthily terrified, the truth is I haven't really started feeling anything about it yet. Relief that the Doctor supported & agreed with my decision, after that there's like an invisible wall & there's a void of nothing on the other side - emotions that I can't or won't even look at? I'm going to rely on my blur to get me through it, once it's done, well then I'll have to deal with it . . . so I will. The Doctor did mention that I may be able to drive again in 2 weeks, I know everyone is different & that isn't a absolute fact, but it was encouraging. He may not have to take the nodes on the left side, so my left arm may 'work' quicker. I think the fact that I'll have a very, very strong will to return home, may be very helpful with recovery.

Re: Exo's Exposé

@Exoplanet Hi and good morning. Even tho' you describe a mental blur you really do seem to have a pretty good handle on the important details. I'm glad your sister went with you to your appointments, she can help you remember the 'fine print' when you are ready to. Honestly I think the blur could be a self-protection mechanism, if that makes sense. You are being so strong (well staunch) about the whole matter and I'm impressed the way you are so clear about what you do and don't want. Lots of love, Eth

PS my adult child is recovering well - the end of week one since the op and as they said yesterday ' all the bits that are meant to come out have come out (drains etc) and all the bits that stay in are in'. They describe the pain as feeling more bruisy than sharp, so that's some relief to them. They are stronger every day and have maintained an amazing sense of humour throughout the whole business. Wishing the same for you
