Exo's Exposé

Exo's Exposé

Looking for somewhere to hide in the Forum, no offense to anyone, I'm just kinda used to my own space - it feels safer to me. I often feel like I'm 'butting in' on other threads, I want to say something but it isn't 'in-line' with the current flow of conversation.

It rained here yesterday, dogs & cats weren't falling from the sky, but the grounds wet, there's puddles in my driveway & it's soooooooo sooooooo much cooler 😄 Guru Google even promises more!! After this weird wet stuff stopped dropping from above, I took the dogs for their walk, I do this almost every afternoon, but after a storm with close lightning strikes, my main purpose is to check the fence is still upright everywhere. I'm happy to announce it was all in tip-top shape 🙂 I noticed new puddle spots all the way around, I was sad that some trees had to be pushed over for the fence line, but the dip of their absence looks quite beautiful with a drop of moisture shimmering within. When I had completed the usual circuit I by-passed returning into the house-yard & wandered through to the dam. I think I may have been a little rain-drunk, I was hoping to see water in it, there wasn't any. I even went & stood in the very center of it's base, I think I was expecting to sink in mud - I didn't; but the cracks are gone . . . & they were huge. So if the Guru comes through with it's promise, there may yet be a puddle for my Staffy to play in 😉

I've decided to leave my camping trip to the beach for another week, rain wouldn't stop me - it rarely rains 24 hrs a day, but storms have - they often have devastingly strong winds that can break off & pick up reasonably heavy objects, that become dangerous ammunition. I've been emailing with the owners of this place, I'll still be in the off-peak season if I leave it another week - though I worry being so close to the Easter holiday, there's a more likely chance of more people. I keep telling myself I've just got to 'get over' that, that that would be all part of the experience - but I know I'm lying to myself. I picked this spot mainly because of the dog-friendly off-lead beach, but also because on the satelite view of Google maps I could see that there's no towns around it. It's one of the most isolated camping parks I've seen {that's within 5 hours of home, well - maybe just a little more}. It also admits it has old amenities, I saw negitive feedback about the place for those reasons - I think if you want to go to a resort . . . that's where you go - not to a place that describes itself as a rustic, old fashioned bush camping park 😉

Re: Exo's Exposé

It's been a while since I've just blurbed. I don't seem to have the words in me much
anymore. It's starting to heat up here & the humidity is so high! My area usually gets
hot, but it's normally a dry heat & doesn't feel as bad as the number on the thermometer.
Lately it's been a really sweaty heat . . . YUK! The bonus is, there has been a bit of rain,
even got flooded in for a week or so just before xmas 😄 So the Staffy gets to swim
round in circles, slapping the water with his front feet, trying to catch the splashes in his
mouth, every afternoon! I think it's fabulous excercise for him, I often cut the walk a bit
short {the little fella & I still do the normal walk around the property, the Staffy makes
a bee-line for the dam 😉 } & go & see the Staffy swimming, I swear he has a giant smile
on his face the whole time! That smile makes me smile, makes me feel better 🙂 I've
jumped in a couple of times with him, at it's highest it was half way between my waist
& my armpits, last time I hopped in it was about waist height - still enough water to
float in or do a bit of breaststroke . . . so I am actually swimming in my dam. I figure I
have this private water hole I ought to take advantage of it, for the past 5-10 years it's
mostly been a huge cracked dip in the ground & is likely to return to that state, although
maybe not this year as they keep talking about La Nina's or El Nino's {I think the wet
one's La Nina} & promising lots of rain this Summer. The problem with lots of rain is
lots of chances of flooding & the problem with flooding is I'm not game to leave my
area . . . the problem with not leaving my area is that the likes of groceries are way more
expensive & as for tobacco - whoa! I got caught on the wrong side of the river one year,
it took me 5 days to get home, the last flood cut my little town off for a week - the road
just disappears & locals know it's not worth trying to drive through the water as football
field sized chunks of the road at literally gone - washed away! - there's nothing there for
you to drive on. If we get a decent flood we can be cut off for up to a month, then the
little town runs out of everything. They will helicopter in emergency stuff like medical
supplies, but the likes of bread, milk . . . TOBACCO & even fuel - runs out. I'd rather
be at home without even smokes, than not be able to get home - that's the worst feeling!
I've spent a lot of money making my home my safety bubble, I have not 1 but 2 fences,
a house yard one & a property one, both of which I lock chains around the gates!! The
security I feel within my own home is definitely worth every penny!
Well, that's it for now, there's lots of other stuff, car stuff, health stuff, kid stuff, I think
the truth is I just don't want to think about it all.
Love to all that need or want it ❤️

Re: Exo's Exposé

I have not swum in a dam like that for 50 years @Exoplanet . So the smiles multiply as your story brings a smile to my face. I did go down to our river this morning, did some weeding and tidying up. It sometimes floods here and the town can be cut off but it has only every 10 or so years. I made a decision to do a weekly walk to the river and at least once a month to the beach, other than just close to home or to the guerilla gardens. Someone was giving away agave so I now have something to decorate the local power station... long story.

Glad you are feeling secure in your sanctuary. You deserve it.

Oh an @Exoplanet update - love it

I love the story of your staffy in the dam - Toby is like that at the beach ...I swear he is smiling too 👍😁

I do hope you don't get flooded again and even more so that you are not off your property if it does happen - I could not think of much worse than not being able to get home to your safe place. Hugs and hugs hon ...love when you drop in

@Exoplanet Your dog is sooooo cute!!! I love swimming too. It's good you have the opportunity to swim at the river and at the beach, and your dog is a great companion who shares your lifestyle. It's good to get an update from you! I'm glad you're all right and hopefully you can stay on your property if it floods again next time instead of being kept away from home for a week or more. I hope your day is going well!
