Topic Tuesday // Loneliness in smaller communities // Tues 26th March, 7pm AEDT

Topic Tuesday // Loneliness in smaller communities // Tues 26th March, 7pm AEDT

Living in smaller communities can be aligned with so many wonderful things. You might be near nature, enjoy the comfort of familiar faces or perhaps relish in more down time.

On occasion, living within smaller communities can sometimes lead to feelings of isolation and loneliness, especially for young Australians. This Topic Tuesday our Community Manager @Former-Member will facilitate an engaged and open conversation around some of the peaks and troughs of life within smaller communities as we work through mental health symptoms.

*NB This event originally featured a special guest, due to external circumstance this event will now be facilitated by the Forums Community Manager.

I'm new here - what is Topic Tuesday?

Topic Tuesday runs from 7pm - 9pm AEST monthly. Each month we focus on a different topic, with the session facilitated by a Community Manager or Moderator. Sometimes Topic Tuesday will feature a special guest, who is an expert in the topic.

The first post of the thread (this one) will give you an idea of what the topic is and what will be covered.

How do I get involved?

Topic Tuesday takes place right here! It's text based, so no software is needed. During the session, to keep up with the latest posts hit the 'refresh' button on your browser for the latest posts (it doesn't automatically update). Keep an eye for page numbers at the top & bottom of the page, and jump to the highest page number for the most recent post.

Throughout the session, the facilitator will put questions out for you to answer, usually asking for your own experience on the topic. To contribute to the session, just hit the 'reply' button and share your thoughts. No answers are right or wrong and everyone is welcome to get involved.

If you have any questions about how to use the Forums, check out our Guides.

Sit by the river counting ducks. I'm doing that tomorrow with another lady. We're both in the same situation so no pressure to talk. Just something new

love this response...

will remember to do this myself

I too live in a small rural community with so many cliques...

mainly centred around sport...sport and more sport...

who is related to whom...

who lived in what house on what road with the old tin shed...no names given...locals know though..

I have isolated for a long time and this further exasperated my own mind health...on top of other stuff that I was dealing with...

Great stigma...even racism...

gossiping seems to be the acceptable form of conversation which automatically turns me off..

so already feeling different...I really do not fit...

Am starting to continue with my own stuff as well as carer support group outings occasionally.

apologies for length...

I was following @Former-Member trail and found the topic...

I am not on here much ...down side is miss out on topics that would be of help...

I found this ...meant to be..

thanks all if you read this far...

I do know how you feel...
