Thanks @Faith-and-Hope
I wish I could express myself well or articulate better. I'm just really disappointed from seeing my specialist last week. I can't remember much of the session, I just find she constantly puts me down. She basically said to me that she was surprised that I fitted in at my volunteer role- which left me feeling hurt. I also talk to her about my recent blood test and how it showed borderline thyroid problem and we also discussed about going through premature menopause and the thyroid problem she didn't seen concerned about because its quite common for people of my age. The premature menopause she seemed to care a bit more about this because I am too young to have gone through this.
The issue is that I have know this specialist for a very long time and I have become quite dependent on her because of the length time I have know her. In 2014, she gave me a diagnose of borderline personality disorder after seeing me since June 1998- this was the first diagnosis I had been given (by her) and still makes me really sad. She said I only have a few of the traits and not sure which ones she is referring to either. The reason I was upset because that year I had two admissions into hospital in Sydney (2014) and I was given a diagnosis of major depression and I was admitted once last year with dsythymia.
From my perspective I think she should have told me the diagnose much earlier then 2014 because I may have wanted to seek a second opinion or accessed specialised treatment. After that diagnosis she retired from psychiatry and I find that hard too because when I went to Sydney I accepted the diagnosis of the depression and I was getting support from friends etc and then a few weeks after that she told me I had BPD. I honestly don't see I have this, I am really quiet and reserved and have always been sensible and level headed.
I'm not sure how to tackle this with her and also to deal with why she never told me earlier about the diagnose so I had more options. I feel like it was a way to control me.
The question was about that (diagnosis) and also about her opinion of me not fitting in etc. This observation and opinion kinda gets my back up a bit. To me its not about fitting in as such but being accepted by others. To me she is referring to a social fit and many factors can affect this including someone lack confidence, quiet and reserved, anxiety, depression and past experiences. To me the problem lies with mostly the relationship I have with her and the lack of care in her treatment and intervention
I'm seeing her again next week and I want to address the diagnosis and why she thinks I don't fit in etc. Thanks for reading this @Faith-and-Hope
