A new start (kind of)

A new start (kind of)

Hi @Shaz51 @Zoe7 @outlander @TAB @Sam3 @utopia @Faith-and-Hope @Appleblossom @oceangirl @Sans911 @Snowie @Former-Member @soul @BryanaCamp @Former-Member @Bunniekins and whoever else is there in forumland

I have tagged some of you because we are speaking lots and some others haven't been around for long. If it's too much for you then that's okay I respect that. I won't take it personally.

I have decied to start up a new thread after my psychiatrist appointment today. Off to a new start.

Simply put, he made the point that I am pressuring myself to do stuff far more quickly than what I thought I could. When this approach fails, it feeds back into the loop that was there before (the "i am not good enough", "I have limited time", "I have wasted my life" etc).

He said it was good I didn't go to hospital and avoided ending up there. This doesn't help. What does help is changing the approach etc.

It was a good appointment. I see him again in the morning and then maybe someone else next week.

So it's not entirely hopeless or lost now.

He thought that pressuring myself to go and get this visa would be the wrong decision, given my state of panic yesterday and also this morning.

He said that I need to hold off on pressuring myself. By saying "okay now that I am in Australia for a bit longer, I need to go and find a job quickly" because this is simply unhelpful. It's the wrong attitude and will only feed back into those loops.

So am I feeling more settled? Yes. Do I know what is next? No. Does this bother me? No.

I see my psychologist tomorrow afternoon. I will get something from my psychiatrist in the morning about all of this I think, which he said he can send off as part of the extension on the visa (which lasts for 2 years anyway). It's just a case of extending the timeframe for when I can receive it.

This would effect my chances of working in defence, mi6 etc but these are already off the table for me given my history anyway. The same is the case for the military and police. It does seem like some things are cancelled out because of my MH, but maybe they are things I was never keen on anyways.

That's a side issue for now.

Going to the UK - still a goal. It's a case of how I get there and WHAT I do when I get there. We have established that rocking up with no job or place to live is too chaotic. Especially based on my experience and degree background and skills. But the UK is a goal. My Psychiatrist said "Poland is always there" so I think it might be worthwhile sending them an email asking if I could be either placed on next year's list OR alternatively get some of my money back given the circumstances. Again, not my concern for now.

My concern at the moment is explaining all this to dad. My Psych spoke to my mum today too so she is in the loop. I think he will understand, he wants what is best for me. It takes some adjustment and time. But this is life and how we live it.

THanks forumites. See you a bit later today

Edit: I heard today that one of my old tutees that i helped in 2017 is working and is at uni. Doing well and studying. I joked that we should meet up for coffee and then i can get a job at the same place lol. So today has had a silver lining. This was the student who nearly quit school. But I can only take as much credit for what they achieved. Most of it was them

Re: A new start (kind of)

hello all

how did work go today @MDT ? hope you had a good day & the people were alright

are you having a good day off @Zoe7 ? hope the day has gone smoothly. How did you go at the GP is your leg/back feeling any better?

hope you had a safe drive @TAB and settling in ok.

I just heard today that my brother overseas has been admitted to a psych ward in hospital. my phone plan doesn't allow me to make overseas phonecalls so I can't call the ward. my brother isn't responding to his phone or email so we think they may have taken his phone away? do they do that in hospital? I dunno what to think, at least he's in a safe place. it's a pity it's a public hospital not a private one.

I had a stressful day at volunteering, I got to the end of my tether with this guy and had to leave the room to calm myself down which was noticed. oh no. now i'm stress-eating at home

Re: A new start (kind of)

You did the right thing by removing yourself from a stressful situation @BryanaCamp whether it was noticed or not is not important - you did the right thing for everyone and should be proud of yourself for noticing how you were feeling and that you took appropriate steps to settle yourself

I can imagine you are worried about your brother but it is also a good thing that he is getting help. I know you have been worried about him so being in hospital might be the thing that is needed for him to get ongoing help.

My leg and back are a lot better today and I didn't mention it to my GP. We talked a bit about how I have been feeling over the last week and she is happy that I am doing things to try to get through it. She doesn't think I am going backwards at all - it is just a difficult period to get through and re-inforced that I can do that. She knows me very well so I will take her word for it that I still look and sound okay and nowhere near how I have been in the past. If she was at all concerned she would certainly tell me. So for now it is just a matter of getting through day by day and hoping to break this little spell of feeling flat soon.

Re: A new start (kind of)

thanks for your support @Zoe7 , I hadn't even thought of leaving the room as a good thing, I was just feeling ashamed for needing to. yeah, I agree that perhaps this is the best thing for my brother and maybe a crisis was the only way for him to reach out for help.

I'm glad your leg and back are improving . Sorry to hear you're feeling flat, that's hard to work through and very tiring. It's great your gp can see how well and strong you are, sounds like an awesome sounding board to have in your life. You're working so hard, it is not surprising it is tiring.

Re: A new start (kind of)

Definitely no need to feel ashamed for having to leave the room @BryanaCamp - that is looking after yourself and dealing with the situation in a very mature manner. We all have been in situations where the best thing is to walk away - compose ourselves and then continue on - that actually shows courage to do and I believe is also character building.

My GP has been with me from the beginning when I first became unwell and seen me go through everything I have been through since - she really is a great person to have in my life and has often gone above and beyond what her job is to keep me safe and help me get through the really tough times. She does know me pretty well and I trust her judgement when it comes to how I present both physically and mentally. She would take further action if she thought I was heading downhill again - and I honestly don't feel like I am but know there is a fine line also between having a few off days and heading into depression again.

Re: A new start (kind of)

Lol @eudemonism "Smoko" made me laugh a bit. Classic terminology. But yes I did use them well. Took my own lunch today as it was cheaper. There are a few no hopers so it's helping me realise the capacity I have to do a good job at certain things. This has boosted my mood a little bit. Hopefully I get something for federal election too but let's wait and see. Hope your day was good.

How was your day @TAB hope it went well. Was the force with you? Or another addition to the Chronicles of @TAB I wonder 😛

Hey @BryanaCamp I am well thanks. Just a bit tired. Another slog. Two more to go then Saturday off. Then back again for three days. Then off. Then on. Then done. It's one quick. But it's nice to be doing something. The people are 50/50. Lol.

Hey also to @Zoe7 @Shaz51 @Sam3 @outlander @oceangirl @BlueBay

Re: A new start (kind of)

Leaving the room was a wise move @BryanaCamp and I'm sorry to hear about your brother. What country is he in? And also they usually do take things like phones away from you in hospital. Normal practice

Hey @MDT Chillin' on the couch tonight - it is pretty cold here at night now so doona and Toby snuggles are most welcome. Haven't put the heater on yet but don't think it is too far away.

Good that you have work - it is something for you to fill your days with at the moment - and the money coming in would be good. I suppose like any job it has it's ups and downs but it is a move in the right direction for you.

Re: A new start (kind of)

@MDT yea no hopes I get what you are saying I have found it is better to have good and strong boundaries between myself and people who could potentially make me stumble or come unstuck plus i have found i always need better social and occupational activities to commit myself to even if it is self care and solitude and yea having family is always a great social option
