A new start (kind of)

A new start (kind of)

Hi @Shaz51 @Zoe7 @outlander @TAB @Sam3 @utopia @Faith-and-Hope @Appleblossom @oceangirl @Sans911 @Snowie @Former-Member @soul @BryanaCamp @Former-Member @Bunniekins and whoever else is there in forumland

I have tagged some of you because we are speaking lots and some others haven't been around for long. If it's too much for you then that's okay I respect that. I won't take it personally.

I have decied to start up a new thread after my psychiatrist appointment today. Off to a new start.

Simply put, he made the point that I am pressuring myself to do stuff far more quickly than what I thought I could. When this approach fails, it feeds back into the loop that was there before (the "i am not good enough", "I have limited time", "I have wasted my life" etc).

He said it was good I didn't go to hospital and avoided ending up there. This doesn't help. What does help is changing the approach etc.

It was a good appointment. I see him again in the morning and then maybe someone else next week.

So it's not entirely hopeless or lost now.

He thought that pressuring myself to go and get this visa would be the wrong decision, given my state of panic yesterday and also this morning.

He said that I need to hold off on pressuring myself. By saying "okay now that I am in Australia for a bit longer, I need to go and find a job quickly" because this is simply unhelpful. It's the wrong attitude and will only feed back into those loops.

So am I feeling more settled? Yes. Do I know what is next? No. Does this bother me? No.

I see my psychologist tomorrow afternoon. I will get something from my psychiatrist in the morning about all of this I think, which he said he can send off as part of the extension on the visa (which lasts for 2 years anyway). It's just a case of extending the timeframe for when I can receive it.

This would effect my chances of working in defence, mi6 etc but these are already off the table for me given my history anyway. The same is the case for the military and police. It does seem like some things are cancelled out because of my MH, but maybe they are things I was never keen on anyways.

That's a side issue for now.

Going to the UK - still a goal. It's a case of how I get there and WHAT I do when I get there. We have established that rocking up with no job or place to live is too chaotic. Especially based on my experience and degree background and skills. But the UK is a goal. My Psychiatrist said "Poland is always there" so I think it might be worthwhile sending them an email asking if I could be either placed on next year's list OR alternatively get some of my money back given the circumstances. Again, not my concern for now.

My concern at the moment is explaining all this to dad. My Psych spoke to my mum today too so she is in the loop. I think he will understand, he wants what is best for me. It takes some adjustment and time. But this is life and how we live it.

THanks forumites. See you a bit later today

Edit: I heard today that one of my old tutees that i helped in 2017 is working and is at uni. Doing well and studying. I joked that we should meet up for coffee and then i can get a job at the same place lol. So today has had a silver lining. This was the student who nearly quit school. But I can only take as much credit for what they achieved. Most of it was them

Re: A new start (kind of)

Well all done. Was a little late as there was an accident so ended up going on a detour but still got there with about a minute to spare.
Good group of kids. Responded well and they were keen to get involved. Bit rowdy but to be expected.
I did well I think. I was happy with what I said and did. I think the seriousness hit them when I spoke about my own experiences. That's what it is about I reckon.
Got home and then just been to gym.
This arvo will send in an application for govt position that nerds finishing. Rest of day off I think. Might read or watch a podcast.

Atm waiting for sister. Could be here for a while lol

@MDTno worries. I done some work with counsellor regards caring and loving self talk. + how we label ourselves and other people and the effect it has upon us and others.

Re: A new start (kind of)

@MDT Sounds like you did a great job as usual. It does take great courage to get up in front of a group of people and even more so to talk about your own experiences - so well done you

@Sam3 Hedache better today - it is most likely the lack of reasonable sleep and not having one of my meds as I had it again last night and slept better. Feeling much better today - didn't even need pain killers while at work so that is a bonus.

I see you are still struggling with the flat feeling Hon. Depression does that to us Are you feeling any different with the increase in meds?

Re: A new start (kind of)

well done on your school contribution @MDT , sounds very brave and generous of you. An amazing contribution cosidering where you've been recently. Hope you feel good for doing it. hope the job application is going ok - you really are pumping them out. thanks for your support, I appreciate it.

hi @TAB how did the dentist mission go, it was today I think?

hi @Zoe7 you poor old sausage, sorry to read that headache peristed & while you were working too. Really glad to hear it's better. I take an ssri that helps me sleep at night & get very panicky if I run out as physical probs quickly follow no sleep. It's hard to keep up to date with meds, they run out so fast & are expensive.

hi @Sam3 , sorry you're feeling flat. Sitting with you.

I wrote a job application today, just trying to keep job searching & applying if anything comes up. Went to volunteering yesterday & got through it without losing my patience or souring my reputation, that's the most I was looking for so that's good. Heatwave heading my way.

Re: A new start (kind of)

Great that you are still keeping up with the job hunt @BryanaCamp It can be draining just looking so you are doing well in applying too. @MDT is a great role model here for persistence in applying for jobs - and he has had some success as well so that is even more inspiring.

Meds are expensive - my one I had to get yesterday is one of my most expensive but I couldn't go any longer without it - especially with the headache and thinking it may be related to not having that particular one at night. It has left me with very little money but I am going to ask my sister for a loan until pay day next week. Hopefully I won't have any bills come in in the next couple of weeks so I can pay her back and get back on track myself.

What kind of volunteering are you doing?

Re: A new start (kind of)

Sometimes i get a bit too defensive about talking about medications because people can go crazy around that topic @Zoe7 @BryanaCamp

But at the end of the day medications aren't the be all and end all because they don't fix things automatically.

Either way though thanks again 🙂

I left my application to tomorrow. Something to do that way. Might boost that up to 2. But who knows at this point
