A new start (kind of)

A new start (kind of)

Hi @Shaz51 @Zoe7 @outlander @TAB @Sam3 @utopia @Faith-and-Hope @Appleblossom @oceangirl @Sans911 @Snowie @Former-Member @soul @BryanaCamp @Former-Member @Bunniekins and whoever else is there in forumland

I have tagged some of you because we are speaking lots and some others haven't been around for long. If it's too much for you then that's okay I respect that. I won't take it personally.

I have decied to start up a new thread after my psychiatrist appointment today. Off to a new start.

Simply put, he made the point that I am pressuring myself to do stuff far more quickly than what I thought I could. When this approach fails, it feeds back into the loop that was there before (the "i am not good enough", "I have limited time", "I have wasted my life" etc).

He said it was good I didn't go to hospital and avoided ending up there. This doesn't help. What does help is changing the approach etc.

It was a good appointment. I see him again in the morning and then maybe someone else next week.

So it's not entirely hopeless or lost now.

He thought that pressuring myself to go and get this visa would be the wrong decision, given my state of panic yesterday and also this morning.

He said that I need to hold off on pressuring myself. By saying "okay now that I am in Australia for a bit longer, I need to go and find a job quickly" because this is simply unhelpful. It's the wrong attitude and will only feed back into those loops.

So am I feeling more settled? Yes. Do I know what is next? No. Does this bother me? No.

I see my psychologist tomorrow afternoon. I will get something from my psychiatrist in the morning about all of this I think, which he said he can send off as part of the extension on the visa (which lasts for 2 years anyway). It's just a case of extending the timeframe for when I can receive it.

This would effect my chances of working in defence, mi6 etc but these are already off the table for me given my history anyway. The same is the case for the military and police. It does seem like some things are cancelled out because of my MH, but maybe they are things I was never keen on anyways.

That's a side issue for now.

Going to the UK - still a goal. It's a case of how I get there and WHAT I do when I get there. We have established that rocking up with no job or place to live is too chaotic. Especially based on my experience and degree background and skills. But the UK is a goal. My Psychiatrist said "Poland is always there" so I think it might be worthwhile sending them an email asking if I could be either placed on next year's list OR alternatively get some of my money back given the circumstances. Again, not my concern for now.

My concern at the moment is explaining all this to dad. My Psych spoke to my mum today too so she is in the loop. I think he will understand, he wants what is best for me. It takes some adjustment and time. But this is life and how we live it.

THanks forumites. See you a bit later today

Edit: I heard today that one of my old tutees that i helped in 2017 is working and is at uni. Doing well and studying. I joked that we should meet up for coffee and then i can get a job at the same place lol. So today has had a silver lining. This was the student who nearly quit school. But I can only take as much credit for what they achieved. Most of it was them

Re: A new start (kind of)

hey congratulations on your job @MDT that's awesome! how exciting. things are happening so fast for you, you didn't even have to interview. keep us posted on how your research goes with it today. how was pdoc?

best of luck @TAB with your interview, you'll be great!

hi @Zoe7 , hope you have a better day today with headache and get a chance to have water - I totally sympathise with getting dehydration headaches, it really sneaks up on you.

hi @Sam3 my anti-psychotics were prescribed for psychotic symptoms. my anger is not turned inwards it's very much outwards like I want to punch everybody & yell my indignation at them, a terrible feeling & nothing helps to dampen it but meds. It's like anxiety through the roof with an extremely badly active mind, very anguished, makes it hard to enjoy anything or focus. Maybe you should speak to your pdoc if meds not helping - i did trial & error for about 18 months to find the right stuff. depression is always there holding me back but anxiety makes me so anxious, restless & impulsive it is more powerful.

Feeling real flat today, got a big day ahead. Dentist, GP and I have to make a batch of catfood, an epic task that takes up a lot of time & energy. I am so sleepy & don't know where I'm going to find the energy. Better brush my teeth!!

What did you think of his performance on qanda @Appleblossom
?

Re: A new start (kind of)

Pdoc was good thanks @BryanaCamp
He was saying just keep doing what I'm doing. I asked him. About medications and exercise and if it effected each other. He said it didn't because exercise boosts dopamine and adrenalin. Apparently you need your heart rate at about 130 to get that boost and I joked and said that I can get that high just by thinking about work. He found this particularly funny lol.

Take it one step at a time my friend. Baby steps

I am happy with the role for two reasons. Number one it's not for a week from now so that gives me time to think about it. Then number two it's not full time and only temp. Both of these are the things I need for a transition back into regular work. So it's a win win I think.

I hope you festive forumites have yourselves an okay day.

@MDT

Love your joke about heart rate and thinking about work.

Re the JP

I think he did alright. I did not watch it til the end, but got the tenor of the other participants.

I actually like him and think that the world needs something like him and are showing that they do thru his popularity. I was never anti male, as I related strongly in many many male pursuits. Toxic anything masculinity or feminity by definition of the word "toxic" is a problem. He is encouraging men to get their act together, not enabling or colluding with toxic behaviours.

On one hand, I am well steeped in feminism and marxism, but its deep enough and tempered by a lot of real world experience. I have had difficulty with the generation he is actually trying to reach and the issues he raises. Serious difficulty. Re a teacher who groomed my daughter and blocked my access to her. I was accused of not knowing all the laws relating to gay rights in each state or territory. My daughter knew I was sympathetic. It was ridiculous but also tragic for me. I doubt he is likely to encourage the kind of "right" behaviour of those who prefer Trump. I did pol sci remember and dont see the L/R dichotomy as definitive, its an over simplification, its kinda a circle, but more complicated ...

JP is a performer. That is true. DId anything interesting happen at the end?

Re: A new start (kind of)

I agree with all you said @Appleblossom
I did govt and international relations as my degree so I see where you are coming from re political divide. I dabbled in political sciences.
I think he is playing a crucial role in making people stable minded. Seems to be a lot of craziness these days. I remember seeing political crazies at uni.
I've also had a bit of a negative experience with some psychs or charities that were more politically aware than providing mental health advice and help. Joke really. And yeh toxic anything is bad.
The opposition rep last night was a bit lost and the govt rep was a bit of a dill.
I'm the end they kept talking about different sorts of political movements and identity and then religion.
Pretty in depth I thought
