Saying Hello and want to help people suffering with their minds!

Saying Hello and want to help people suffering with their minds!

Hi there,

I am from the UK originally, where I have been recently after having travelled in India/Asia and Australia for a few years on a working holiday visa.

I am back in Melbourne now.

I am really passionate and want to help people who may be struggling with mental health. I personally have suffered from anxiety and depression in the past and have a good acceptance/understanding as to what genuinely helps.

I am lucky I got the chance to go travelling, break out of my normal routine and see different cultures around the world.

Before I went travelling my best friend who also used to struggle with his own mind, introduced me to meditation and I can't speak highly enough about it. It's something that can anchor you in the present moment and disengage with the mind, because after all, the mind and the ego are the main reasons behind depression and anxiety. As soon as we realise that the mind isn't who we are then endless possibilities can open up for us all.

Anyway, hopefully you guys will be interested in what I am saying, above all though would just be great to have a chat with people and see how I can help - There is a way!!!!

Thanks! Jamie.

Re: Saying Hello and want to help people suffering with their minds!

Hi there @Jamdewint,

Firstly, I'd like to warmly welcome you to the SANE Forums. I hope you find it a supportive place to share your experiences and connect with other members

It is really lovely to hear how passionate you are about helping people and that you have found some strategies and understanding/acceptance that has assisted you with depression and anxiety. It can be such a relief to find this place after wrestling with thoughts and your ego, something that I'm sure everyone can relate to in varying degrees. Learning meditation and how to drop an anchor and practice acceptance is such a skill and sounds like a very valuable one that you have developed.

It is important that you share your experience with these strategies with others who may find it helpful, while also being mindful that these strategies may not work for everyone and that everyone is on their own journey. Mental health often requires each individual to talior techniques and strategies to their own needs and likes and unfortuntely there is no 'one size fits all' so to speak.

It can be really exciting when we find something that works well for us and wanting to share this with others who may find it helpful is a natural desire and comes from a caring and compassionate place. In sharing your experience with others, being mindful that you are coming at it from a peers perspective rather than an experts stance is something to keep in mind.

Welcome again @Jamdewint
