Nothing feels real

Nothing feels real

I am wondering whether anyone has experienced anything like this?

For the last year things have being feeling less and less real. I have experienced dissociation before, but usually I come back to feeling real within a short period of time or with sensory grounding techniques.

I really can't shake the feeling. It's there 24/7 and nothing I do reduces it. Nothing I experience feels real to me. It's become more of an issue recently and I'm questionning everything that I see/feel/hear. It feels like a Trueman show scenario where everything has been set up around me. I sometimes think that my partner and close friends are a figure of my imagination - I'm convinced that I've just made them up.

I am just wondering if anyone else out there has experiences similar things before and if you have any tips for what has helped you.

(While I don't care too much about diagnosis, I was diagnosed with bipolar back in 2016. In hospital stays since then, doctors say it's not clear cut as to whether what I'm experiencing is dissociative or psychotic in nature.)

Hi there.

I hear you... Currently going through something similar myself I'm in day 2. I don't know if it's a result from long term use of LSD but I do have a diagnosis of BPD and Schizophrenia. But this feels different.

Usually as you said itend to recover quickly from dissociative symptoms based on grounding techniques and sometime extra medication like a atypical antipsychotic but this time it hasn't worked.

Even sitting here writing this feels like a dream. I haven't done anything outside my usual routine eather. But feel it's getting worse.

Spoke to the psychiatrist today and he doesn't think it's a psychotic epesode as I'm not delusional or hearing the voices what I get when generally having a epesode ay.
