TMS experiences?

TMS experiences?

Hello, I am new to this forum...I am 41 years old and I have had depression since I was a child...but was only diagnosed when I was a teenager and then it explained why my childhood was such a sad time. I have lived with this illness and tried every anti depressant that has been released and I am still suffering. I see a good GP and Psychiatrist who understand that I have "Treatment Resistant Depression" and we are forever searching for something that helps me. My Psychiatrist has suggested ECT and TMS. I am reluctant to try ECT for the amount of time I will need off work but TMS may be a consideration for me at the moment. I am looking to connect with anyone who has had TMS and whether they think it is worthwhile trying with such a resistant depression that I have. Any help and information is appreciated! Thanks

Hi @BlackPoodle

Welcome the Forums!

I've been trying to think of a member on here that might be able to provide you with some suggestions. But I can't think of anyone.

I did a quick search under TMS in the Forums search function and didn't find much. Can you tell what other mental illnesses that it might be used for?

Also, I've moved your post into another part of the Forums, where it'll be easier for other members to find.

Re: TMS experiences?

I have read excellent things about TMS, a few of my lecturers at university research it's safety and efficacy and all report no side effects! Much more appealing than ECT with it potential for memory loss and more complicated proceedure.

The only thing with TMS is you have to attend a clinic a couple of times every week for a fair chunk of time. I'd explore this option for my depression if there was less travel involved. If you contact a research clinic (I know of one in melbourne at the Alfred) you can also access this treatment for free!

Good luck.
