Decluttering and home maintenance

Decluttering and home maintenance

When MI crisis happens, keeping house can take low priority. But having a messy house can further dent what is often an already low self esteem. Build up of grime follows and rodents have a field day in inaccessible places.

Getting that 2 minute job done (that has been annoying you for years) can lift ones spirit.

I have slowly been decluttering and tidying up our house. The progress made thus far has been achieved primarily by persistently dealing with one item a day.

What has often kept me going has been the encouragement from others @Faith-and-Hope, @Smc @Determined @Shaz51

This tip passed on to me today. Hang all your clothes in the wardrobe with the hanger back to front. As you wear them, return them with the hanger the right way round. In 6-12 months review all items that remain on back to front hangers with a view to donating/selling them.

Gas @Determined ignition was stuck, plumber also sorted out gas bottles for us so I can organise refill of empty one.

Managed to get our gutters cleaned this afternoon with a gerni. We have gutter guard being re fitted sometime in the coming week, being replaced as part of the roof replacement, so wanted to clean off all the build up of slime. Managed to get almost a bucket of debris that the roofers were supposed to clean out when they were finished.

Had our boys helping and really highlighted just how much our S1 struggles with basic concepts :face_with_rolling_eyes: feeling bad but I was quite frustrated with his inability to follow basic instructions.

Good to hear that was all sorted easily @Former-Member , we have had issues before with electric hot water and night switch sticking to off.

At.our new place there is a temp limiting valve that gives varied hot water results, google resarch indicates that they can get erratic with varying preassure with age. Contemplating weather to remove or replace. If it was not for FIL I think I would just remove it. We have never had one before.

How is your rodent eradication program progressing @Radleritis?

@Adge did I read somewhere you have the blighters back too?

Re: Decluttering and home maintenance

Yes the Rats are back in my roof @Former-Member Probably because it's nice & warm up there.

My bird aviaries having a ready-supply of birdseed wouldn't help either.

It is rather urgent, as they are getting very noisy (yesterday).

I had wanted (needed) to climb into roof & bait today - but I've been totally wiped-out (exhausted & non-functional) all day.

I forgot all about it.

The best I could do was to finally go shopping, to get all my groceries (early afternoon).

@Adge

When we had our rodent problem I just tossed a few throw packs in different directions through the man hole.

Re: Decluttering and home maintenance

A few years ago when we had a plague I emptied a 10 litre bucket of bait into the ceiling and another one in the shed before we left for a 2 week holiday. All gone by the time we got home and no more rats. Thankfully the smell had gone also by the.time we got home. as it was in December and quite hot I was expecting it to stink.

Re: Decluttering and home maintenance

Yes that's a good idea @Former-Member I still have to get a ladder, & climb up to reach the man-hole.

Plus there's all the old empty ones up there, so I need to get them out (throw in bin).

Re: Decluttering and home maintenance

Wow that's a lot of bait @Determined Necessary of course.

I either don't put enough bait up in roof each time, or I don't bait often enough.

It's all gone, long before I re-bait.

I do about 6 small bait station boxes plus several wax block baits, each time.

Rodents love the wax blocks, they get eaten first.
